F/T question

So when I feed my snakes I let the rats thaw in the fridge over night. I then put it in a dish of almost boiling water for a few minutes, dab with paper towel and they take with no hesitation.

Do you guys dry a little like I do or just give them soaking wet? I know the water probably helps a bit with hydration...

Re: F/T question

I just give em wet.

If anything it gives them some more hydration.

Re: F/T question

I always dry a little with paper towel as well. Can't tell you why I do, its just what I have always done.

I take all my feeders out first thing in the morning, let them thaw out, and then dry with a paper towel, and heat them up a bit with a hair dryer. This method has always worked for me

Re: F/T question

I've heard the blow dry technique from a few others. May try that as well

Re: F/T question

I would just let them air thaw in a ziplock bag for a few hours.

i would NOT leave them that long in so hot water mate, you'd be surprized how hot they get

i leave my frozen prey to thaw over night at room temperature

then i heat them with a hair dryer

the above is just my way of doing things

cheers shaun

Re: F/T question

I also leave overnight to thaw in a glass bowl, i then place bowl onto a hot raditor to provide general "warmth" to all the prey items, then when i am ready to feed each item i press the skull against the radiator to give the head a nice hot target for snakey to aim for

it's also funny as hell if a neighbour pops in for a visit and you've got dead rats on every radiator

i love the look on their faces,as they try to act as if they've not seen them, while all the time, they're trying to work out whats wrong with these people

cheers shaun

Same as when a friend goes to get something out of our freezer, they always forget that there is a drawer of rats in there

Re: F/T question

I thaw mine out and when they're completely thawed, I heat in the hottest tap water I have for a minute or two....as long as it takes me to walk from the sink to the animals....and feed straight out of the hot water. I used to pat mine dry a little but I no longer do it because at least I know they're getting water this way since I rarely see them drink. Plus food response seems to be greater with a hot wet rat.

Re: F/T question

Thaw out for a few hours in hot/warm water then add hot water to it.

Hot and wet seems to work far better than just hot for Mine.

I do exactly the same. When I had less animals I used to dry them with paper towels. Never saw a difference in feeding response when the prey was dry vs wet.
