How long keep F/t?

just getting some stuff together, trying to do the math and see how much i wiould need to spend and all that for eventually breeding, i just want to see if i will break even, or if i can make a small profit.

im thinking about 1000 rats would be good, that would last a year, with feeding everyong 5-7 days. (just what i figured in)

basically, how long can i keep f/t-ers in the freezer with them going bad... i know personally i have ate stuff thats been frozen for a year... sounds gross, but i dont waste anything... every..

just let me konw what you guys think, thanks!

Re: How long keep F/t?

I know a guy who buys over 1000 mice each year with his tax returns, and he's been doing it for years, so I say go for it.

Just keep the bags sealed as long as possible to prevent freezer burn.

Yea a year isn't a big deal. They may get freezer burnt if they aren't sealed completely I use ziplocks but I know people who buy large quantities/breed their own that use vacuum sealing.

i was thinking of getting a vacuum sealing thing, but not 100 percent sure yet, thinking of just getting a mini freezer and using zip lock baggies.

I put mine in ziploc and tape a straw to my vacuum. Insert straw into ziploc and voila, insta vac seal

Re: How long keep F/t?

I do the ziplock vacuum bags and keep mine for up to a year if necessary. So long as the bag is airtight, I haven't seen any issues.

Re: How long keep F/t?

A year in the freezer is no big deal. As long you keep them sealed and don't let them thaw out and freeze again. I took rats off a guy who sold all of his snakes and they were frozen over a year. Not a problem.

The freezer I'm thinking of is a small chest freezer about 3ft high 27 inches wide and 23 inches deep

close, it is literally big enough for maybe 2-4 things.
