Re: Okay is this real or photoshopped?
This was sent to me from my dad in Texas. This is the text part, he didnt write it so its probably worthless.I dont believe much about anything.Although the almighty TV did have a show that talked about rattlesnakes not rattling much anymore.
Y'all need to forget about those itty, bitty snake-proof boots and find yourself a full snake-proof SUIT.., AND HAT!!!
The ranch where this big rattler was killed is outside the city of Coleman which is located in (West Texas) near Abilene . Oh, for reference, the guy stands 6'-2". Seems there's been a boom in the snake population there.
We have killed 57 rattlesnakes on two separate ranches this year. 24 @South bend & 33 @ Murray , since mid May. Not one has buzzed! We provoked one fair sized boy with a stick and he coiled & struck at the stick a couple of times before he buzzed up and rattled. The purpose of this explanation is that I have been hearing the same from fellow ranchers and hunters in regards to the lack of warning with rattlesnakes.
I had lunch with a friend today and he offered a theory about the fact that these bugs aren't rattling anymore. He raised pigs for years and reported that when he would hear a rattlesnake buzzing in the sow pen, the sows would bee line to it and fight over the snake. For the uninformed, pigs love to eat rattlesnakes. Therefore, the theory is they are ceasing to rattle to avoid detection, since there are plenty of pigs roaming the countryside.
I have a neighbor ranching lady who was bitten 3 weeks ago 2 times by the same snake without any warning....she spent 5 days in ICU, after 22 vials of anti-venom she is back at the ranch and still may lose her foot or worse yet her lower leg.
The days of perceived warning are over. Keep your boots on and use a light when out and about. As you all know, one can pop up just about anywhere! You may wish to forward this to anyone that would be interested.

Re: Okay is this real or photoshopped?
It's a photographic issue, the snake is closer to the camera than the man is, giving the illusion of the snake being much larger.
I will get a picture from my friend Don, he had his wife take a picture of him with a garter snake on a hook. Nothing was done to doctor the photo, but it really looks like he is holding up a six foot garter snake.
That would beat the world record by 2 feet.
It's all in the angle of the photo.

Re: Okay is this real or photoshopped?
Im not saying I agree with those rattlesnake roundups but what is the answer? We kill mice and rats when we are infested. What are farmers/ranchers to do when their livestock is in danger. Or worse thier family because of venomous snake infestations?
Like I said Im not defending them. But you cant just go flipping that many rattlers over the fence into your neighbors yard.
Its easy for many to go freaking out because you live in a nice city with no chance of your child or dog getting bit by anything. You didnt have to do the dirty work of clearing your neighborhoods of whatever.
Anyone that can suggest a real solution is the better man, or woman.

Re: Okay is this real or photoshopped?
Back on topic.. no photoshopping was done to this, Here we see Don Belnap a rather large man holding a garter snake, look how big this snake seems.
It's closer to the camera than Don is, so it appears huge.

Believe it or not, when he posted that photo on the garter snake forum, the focus shifted from the snake to Don's pants rather quick.
I'm more of a Futurama fan myself.

Re: Okay is this real or photoshopped?
Has anyone considered that's not an atrox but C. adamanteus? What if it wasn't taken in Texas, that wouldn't be impossible for an eastern diamondback...

Re: Okay is this real or photoshopped?
Still in all, both photos are nearly the same pose (except Don't pet is still alive and well) so regardless of species, the snake's size is exaggerated big time.
