What to put in an empty 10g tank
I have an empty 10g aquarium 20"x10"x12" and I was wondering what snake would fit in that for about 4-6 months until I buy my stack of boaphiles which will be 4'x2'x18". I'm thinking about getting a corn snake but I've also thought about a bp because they have one at petco that NEEDS a home. Every time I go there it seems to have stuck shed or poop in the cage and they are also feeding it live mice that aren't even as thick as the snake. Anyways I'm open to any and all opinions. I won't be getting the new addition whatever it may be for a few weeks.

Re: What to put in an empty 10g tank
I would suggest a corn, very easy snake and all sorts of beautiful colors.
I wouldn't buy a snake from a place like that just because you feel bad for the animal. By doing that all you are doing is allowing the store to profit off treating the animal poorly.

Heck, a male garter snake could live in a ten gallon for life and be happy.

I know what you mean I just hate seeing it suffering there. If I did get it I would most likely get it just to rehome it for cheap to someone who is knowledgable I would check the persons set up and everything.
Wayne: I have thought about garters to what are some cool looking garters or corns with a good amount of orange (my fav color lol)

lots of small colubrids could live in there.
If you buy 1 poorly treated animal from a bad pet store they will just replace it with another sadly

Look at the gallery and tell me what picture excites you most, then I can tell you what it is and how to get one.

I checked out the album and I really like the fire, the flame face, and the eastern blackneck I can't decide what I like more. Could you give me some general care on each as well?

Re: What to put in an empty 10g tank
well you can always go for an albino (red phase) hognose snake, it will be perfectly fine in a tank that size for a long while tbh and on top of that they are more orange than red and looks amazing too - just a thought though

General care for garters is all the same...
I don't use heat sources, room temperatures are perfect.
they will eat F/T pinkie mice, chopped up fish, live minnows and/or night crawlers.
all you need is a water bowl, a hide and some substrate.
The snakes you mentioned are all around $100 each from breeders.
here is a current ad from kingsnake, these little beauties are cheap & pretty.

I love how cool some T's look but both my fiancé and I are terrified of spiders. I would constantly be checking to make sure it was still in there lol.
Back on topic though I will be going to an expo in a month so I'm gonna check out some garters and corns there and see if I can find something.

Re: What to put in an empty 10g tank
I feel ya when it comes to the little ball at the pet store. My 12 year old daughter always wants to "rescue" the snakes from petsmart and petco. We went in the other day and these two baby BPs were in a tank and discounted because it was close to their "expiration" date. I told her we can't rescue every snake. Then she looked in the tank with the baby corns and one was deceased in there.....man I was &%#^%&^!!!
Anyway, I agree with Wayne.......a garter would be fun and they are adorable!!

Re: What to put in an empty 10g tank
If its just for 4-6 months a ball python could fit in that for awhile. It might be tight toward the end but then think how much they will appreciate all the space the will have later. You can always buy a walmart special tub if you think its too tight or if it takes longer then you thought.
