So today was my birthday
And I decided hopefully my luck was good enough today and I bought a pack of f/t pinkies for Schnitzel. After I got them all thawed and warm, I used my large tweezers to drop them into the cage.
When I tried doing the lil mouse dance she was like, disgusted almost.
She did not want them at alllllllllllll. So I just dropped all six of 'em (because they're tiny and she's not a tiny snake) in different spots of her tank, hoping she would eat them.
For the half hour I sat there watching, all she did was go near 'em, smell them, then coil away from them.
Well I just got home, and I put the f/t pinkies in there at about 7pm, it's 12:20am now and I went and checked on her. She was in the middle of eating a pinkie. She looked like she was struggling a little though.
From what I can see, she has eaten 4 out of the 6 pinkies.
Yay!! Her first meal since the winter! (:
Now I can hope to get her eating regularly.
Unfortunately, they don't sell any f/t larger than pinkies...
They only sell live...and that really sucks.
I'm going to call some other pet stores and see if they sell f/t larger than pinkies... Pinkies are soo tiny, like an inch total length and only about half an inch in width. :I

Re: So today was my birthday
Put an add up, there are normally lots of breeders of rodents. Or rodent pro.
Happy birthday.

Re: So today was my birthday
Maybe in Canada, but I've never heard of mice breeders here in the City.
There's a few petstores around, all about 15 mins to 3 hours away, I'll just call a couple of shops and see if they have any f/t hoppers or fuzzies.

Happy Birthday!!!!
I don't know where in NY you live, but you need to check out places like this pet rats / feeder rats | Carlisle | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 12641179
Hope that will work. This is where your going to find the private breeders who will usually have what you need.

Re: So today was my birthday
Thank you. I just checked that site, they have none in NY area.
I just saw a craiglist listing of this guy that breeds mice and sells them frozen as well as live...They live in NJ and they ship their products...So I'm going to email them and ask.

I don't know why you insist on feeding mice to this snake.
Attempt to find rat breeders. It should be big enough for at least rat pinks or rat pups. Even try a live rat pink then switch to f/t.

The problem was that she was refusing any and ALL food, regardless if it were mice or rats...Which is why she hasn't ate since the winter.
And even while I was watching her eat the tiny pinkies, she was struggling to scarf them down...It took over 10 minutes for her to get one pinkie down.
I just want to make sure she doesn't choke or something...Then when I'm sure she can handle it, I plan on switching her over to rat pups or small to medium rats.

Re: So today was my birthday
She won't choke. It's a very small meal for a snake used to larger sizes. That's probably why she struggled.
I don't get why you'd switch to such a large size as a medium rat if you're worried about her not eating for so long. I would stick with rat pinks live next and then a rat pup after. Don't want to stress out the snake stomach.
Oh and happy birthday.

This snake has never eaten anything larger than a small rat. And what I meant was that I'm going to gradually get her eating small rats.
And thank you hun. (:

Re: So today was my birthday
Happy Birthday. If the biggest meal he's ever had was a small rat, then you could try to find some weanling rats or something around that size. If there isn't any rat breeders around you, you could try rodentpro. They ship around the country. Shipping is a little expensive but you could buy a lot at once and have food for awhile. Either way it'd be a good idea to switch him to a bigger rat. Pinkie mice don't have the nutrients he needs.
