NEW & Looking for help with choosing snake! :)

Hey everybody!
Im new to the forums so HELLO.
And I was hoping you guys might be able to help me pick a snake. I know what Im asking for limits me but just thought it might help to throw it all out there. Im a snake noob. Never had one. Just Geckos.
I really wanted a Black King Snake but seems they might get a little too big for my tank space. I only have room for a tank under 15 Gallon Long. (smaller tank the better!!) So it can be something that will grown too large. Id like the snake to have as much play room as possible. Whats out there that can live in small tanks? Hognose & Smooth Green are what Ive been told so far.
(I would prefer to have a snake thats all black or something bright like red or all green. Just a colour preference. No biggy though.)
THANKS so much in advance!

Re: NEW & Looking for help with choosing snake! :)

hmm 15 gallon is 2 small for any snake i can think of...maybe a garter snake, where in canada are you, garter snakes make great pets, and their is lots of different morphs that look amazing, check out infernalis collection, very nice, but i know here in BC they are all illegal to own, not sure about the other provinces tho so check out your local laws, but i think a 15 gallon would house a garter? anyone confirm this for me plz? Welcome to the forum tho oh yeah why a 15 gallon you can get a mexican black king, they are beautifull snakes as i would like to get one too, but you could house that in 30 gallon i would put it in a 50 gallon but i have read min 30 gallon keep the heat around 80'd. tanks are cheep, check your local craiglist or buysell or kijji for a tank and get the snake you really want, it makes caring for it that much more enjoyable. just a tip GL in your search

Honestly for a tank that size, A Garter snake would be perfect.

For size comparison, that is a Motorola cell phone behind the snake.

Thought about a Garter but they stink when you pick them up and theyre under my patio back home so kinda boring. Thinking about a hognose.

from what i know they only stink when they musk, and they only musk when they are scared. so they dont tend to do it when they are in captivity. we got garters here all over but nothing that looks like those beauties, ya a hognose would fit a 15 gallon tank as well. i read as small as a 10 gallon for a western hognose.

Those black and red ones bite hands a lot. They don't musk but damn do they bite.

No disrespect, but Hoggies musk more than any garter ever would.

Thats ok, none taken. Im new to snakes and only know the smell of garters from experience. I use to play with them as a kid and come home smelling like snake stink. I didnt know Hogs had musk.
Anyways, I think I might try an exo terra 18x18 or a 15 Gallon long with a male hognose.
