Hello from Down Under

Hi There,

I'm new here, thought I would introduce myself.... My Name is Tania, my partner and I just bought our son a Stimson's Python for his 4th birthday about 5weeks ago. She is around 16mths old and my son named her Chloe. He is completely in love with her.....as am I!
As we are new to owning a snake I'm sure I will have plenty of questions!
I have attached a photo of Chloe.....(Hope it worked )

Tania

Welcome, it's nice to see someone else with Stimmies. They are great little pythons. I have two females and 1 male Stimsons. If you've got any questions or issues ever, feel free to ask me.

Re: Hello from Down Under

Thanks for the welcome....Looking forward to getting to know you all.

I did have one question but Chloe has already answered it for me before I got a chance to ask here.....
Last week we fed her and although she ate her fuzzie, she wasn't interested really just took it from us like she "had to" I suspected that she would shed soon and within a couple of days she went a dull colour and her eyes clouded over....not realising that they don't like to be handled during this time I continued to handle her daily. We arranged to take her in to my son's Kinder for show n tell today and wasn't sure if she would handle 20 3 and 4 yr olds touching her.

My question was can handling her delay the process or stress her too much?

She was quite the star at kinder and she coped extremely well with the kids, despite telling them not to touch her head, some did anyway and she just put her head under my hand for cover. Tonight walking past her enclosure I noticed she was rubbing her head into the ground, my son went to close and scared her into her tunnel. After putting him to bed a peeked in again and she had already shed her skin! So I'm guessing either stress doesn't delay shedding or she wasn't as stressed as I thought she might be??

Sorry that was long.....I find it all so facinating and this is the 1st time she has shed with us.

Re: Hello from Down Under

Couple of ours will hide totally until the shed is over - won't eat, will strike if you open cage etc - the other two continue as if nothing is happening and just shed as it goes.

Re: Hello from Down Under

nice snake, all snakes are different when it coms time to shedding. I have some that just dont care whether you have to clean their tanks and move them while they are in shed, but i also have some that dont like you even being in the room when they are. Stimmies are generally a good tempered snake that are nearly bomb proof. Im sure you will love her as much as your son does.
