here is a nice mix I like, it's a blend of coconut fiber (Eco earth) and bark chips.

Looks nice, holds humidity and is inexpensive. I mix a bag of repti bark with one brick of Eco earth.

Re: bark bedding q's

I generally don't like Repti-bark for snakes since it tends to scuff up their scutes (belly scales). I prefer cypress mulch (Keeper's Choice). It is shredded much more finely and holds humidity really well. It is a bit more expensive than Repti-bark but so much better and worth it. They only beddings I use in my snake room are finely shredded aspen and Keeper's Choice.

If you are looking to mimic the substrate of a wild ball python living in Africa (there is no "jungle floor" where ball pythons live BTW); sand.
Might I also suggest (please) for you to purchase a few books on the captive husbandry of ball pythons. It will do your new pet a world of good if you became familiar with it's requirements prior to him arriving.

Re: bark bedding q's

I wouldn't put a ball python on sand though-it can cause really nasty impaction and infection of the scutes.

Yes Willow, I was trying to make a point. Albeit a bad one.
Sorry for the confusion.

Re: bark bedding q's

No problem, I was just checking to make sure I hadn't gotten wrong information. Are there any snake species that can be safely kept on sand?
