Red Deer show

All in all i thought it was a great show, I came out with a new corn snake, and a couple cresties. Im very happy with what i got. I was just kinda disturbed at some of the vendors and the animals they wer selling. A couple vendors were selling animals that were way too young I though, I noticed this with the beardies expecially, some of them looked like they were olny out of the egg for a week! Was I the olny one who noticed this? Also the quality of some of the beardies was pretty poor to I thought. Oh well good with the bad i guess, what are some of your guys thoughts on this?

I'll agree with you on that. I saw a few things that looked way too young!!! I thought they were gonna croak at any time!

I had two two week corns at our table, but they were for display and NFS (they're my keepers anyway).

I'm not sure if there's a certain age or in the case of snake a minimum amount of meals an animal should have to be sold, but I think that's at the discretion of the seller, and as a buyer, you should always ask questions about age and "establishment" of the animal. Myself, I never buy under four weeks for a lizard and don't consider a snake established until at least 2 - 3 meals.

I had small babies at my table, but I was not selling mine. I sell mine at a minimum of 6 weeks old. There was some small stuff, but I was suprised that most of the beardies that were being sold were of a good size.

It is really hard to enforce any kind of rules for this kind of stuff. You can say they look small but you cant prove it. The seller can say I don't feed that much that's why they are smaller.
It is really simple thou. If it looks to small don't buy it. That's why there are many vendors go and look around and pick out bigger more active animals. Also you get what you pay for. If some one cheaps out to save $10 what can you do if it doesn't make it. Mark it up as a lesson learned, we have all been there at one point.

Ya, someone sold me a cricket that I put with my leopard gecko with so my leo could have a pet and my cricket got EATEN!!!! No one told me that would happen!!!!!

I even bought it from Walter so I could save 10cents on my cricket. I'm very sad.

I didnt buy any of the questionable animals, I just think it is very irresponsible, If some kid goes and buy's an animal pre-maturely and the animal dies, chances are he wont want to buy another one so we lose one more potential person In our hobby. As with everything Its buyer beware, I just wish these breeders cared more about the people and the animal they are selling than just trying to get rid of them.

In time, breeders who don't sell good stock get weeded out. It's a lesson to be learnt for us observers, future breeders and customers. In any situation there'll be the good and bad. I'm just glad there was more good than bad at shows.

I was sold an albino cricket by Mads at the show. I think he was conning me casue when I got home it changed colours. Now he won't give me my $1.00 back. BUYER BEWARE!!!! lol lol

Lol... how long do feeder crickets live anyway?

I could get a few for pets... it'd irritate my family a LOT- they all hate the cricket singing.
