Question Liver dysfunction...

Anyone ever heard of a better treatment for this than Milkthistle, Lactulose and Baytril? All 3 have proven ineffective. I am now in communication w/ 2 other people with this problem and none of the treatments have worked for any of us.

The problem is usually in older (although one is only 2 yrs) male Veils and is characterized by extreme swelling of the soft parts of the head (cheeks, sides of casque, neck, other facial areas) eventually spreading to the rest of the body. Lack of appetite (in my case) etc. When tested they come up with extremely high liver enzyme counts: normal is 10 or so, the 3 in question were all in the 500 range. None of our vets can tell us what is causing this or how to treat it, mine suggested a tumor/cancer, hepatisis, infection of some kind??
No husbandry issues exist, verified by the respective vets -

In any case, if anyone has heard ANYTHING about this, please let me know.

Leah,

I'm afraid I can't help - but I am sorry to hear about your old guy - I know you've been through alot with him.

Have you guys had the old oversupplementation discussion in regards to organ function? I am wondering b/c my 4 1/2 year old veiled's casque has become "mushy" - we are seeing if eliminating all supplementation will make a difference. He did have a complete blood workup done mid-June and all was normal, except for a mildly elevated blood calcium.

Keep us posted!

UPDATE: Poor Old Mr. Lizard (6 years) is going to be euthanized this weekend, his "prognosis" is kidney and/or liver failure and possibly cancer. I am going to be crying for 2 weeks. I have a lot of chams, but this one was special (obviously). He is the only "pet" chameleon I have ever had, the very best pet I have ever had too...and i have had everything: dog, cat, guinea pig, mouse, rat, degu, swifts, all sorts of frogs, fish, ducks, geese, a bat, 2 squirrels, a dove, parakeets, hedgehogs, rabbits, chickens, a turtle, a tortoise, a monitor....god, what else!
