Here's how we do it.

You will need 1 bucket with lid(we use a kitty litter bucket that is about 4USG). The lid doesn't have to be air tight and probably is good if it isn't.
1 Small deli cup with holes in the lid (this is to prevent the rats from accidently spilling it in the first few seconds)
rodents
dry ice

Make sure you are working in a well ventilated area, you don't wanna gas your self or worse your pets in the same room. CO2 can kill you just as dead as it kills rodents.

Take the deli cup with holes punched in the lid and fill it with warm-hot water (don't close the lid yet).
Prepare the bucket by putting the rats in bucket and placing the lid on top.
Drop the ice pellets in the deli cup, and close it's lid.
Place the delicup inside the bucket and seal the lid.
Wait about 15 minutes (just to make sure you get them all) then bag and freeze the rodents.

I'd include pics but when i'm killing rodents i'm not in a snap happy mood.

Yes CO2 can kill you. Not because it is toxic but rather because it can lower the O2 content in the air around you. It is the gas we exhale when we breath out. If you take simple precautions like an open window or door to allow for ventilation, there is really no risk or danger to yourself or others. This is one of the reasons two reasons that it is such a good produce for this job.J I believe that CO2 works, it displaces the oxygen needed to survive and causes asphyxia. Not pretty but effective and relatively safe for you and yours. I have read claims that it produces a narcotic effect, drugging the critters before it kills them but, I think that this is wishful thinking to appease people’s conscious. I may be wrong and if someone has proof otherwise please state it. Oh, and opinion is not proof, sorry

Oh and the other reason is that it is a naturally occurring substance in the bodies of all living animals (Especially mice & snake in this case).

I just wanted to state the above because some people seem to be under the wrong idea that CO2 is some kind of dangerously deadly thing, kind of like all them snakes and lizards out there, and it seems to me that one of the main purposes of this site is to dispel false info (also known in the world as BS).
