Grateful new parent to carpet python

Hi. I wanted to introduce myself. My grandson and I are grateful to say we are parents to a male carpet python that is a rescue. He has male genitalia that does not retract back in otherwise he's happy and healthy. He's been that way since birth and simply needs a special environment lots of tlc and prayers.😊 Helpful suggestions welcome especially on feeding a shy picky lil fella.

Congrats on the new critter. Carpets are great snakes to keep and relatively easy to care for. In regards to feeding, are you offering live or frozen thawed prey? Also, how old/how large is your snake? Lastly, what are the temps in your enclosure? You want to make sure your husbandry is dialed in properly. They can sometimes be tricky to get started but once they get going they're usually pretty consistent feeders.

Re: Grateful new parent to carpet python

I would recommend finding a very good vet and having the hemipenes evaluated. I had a tortoise with prolapsed hemipenes that required surgical removal. I had to contact the vet that handled the local zoo's animals to find someone that could competently manage the surgery. Correcting the issue will no doubt make caring for your python much easier.
