Slowing down feedings

I know at a certain point you should cut back meals so your snake doesnt become overweight. Wasnt sure when that should be, so I did some research. Just wanted to see if anyone can verify that the info I came across is legit. Thanks

  • If your snake is between 0-9 months old feed an appropriately sized* item every 5 days.
  • If your snake is between 9-12 months feed an appropriately sized* item every 6 days.
  • If your snake is between 1-3 years feed it an appropriately sized* item every 10 days
  • If your snake is over 3 years feed it an appropriately sized* item every 14 days.

Re: Slowing down feedings

What kind of snake? This sounds like more of a colubrid feeding schedule, not a boa. Boas can go longer after meals

Re: Slowing down feedings

I dont tend to stick to a strict schedule like that, I wait until I see my snakes cruising around, which is a good sign they are getting hungry, then they usually get 24 to 48hrs extra waiting time before a feed - those schedules are more of a guide than an absolute requirement, lots of things can affect a snake food requirements, but the schedules can help prevent over feeding, and give you an idea of when to expect hunger to kick in, and if the snake isnt hungry as expected it lets you know to look out for other things which may be affecting it

I think this a good strategy! All snakes are different for sure.
