Palms in the enclosure

Hello everyone! I found this website and it mentioned palms need airflow and without air flow they can bring in mites and other bugs. Would this bother an Ackie monitor or would he feel more at home?

Re: Palms in the enclosure

As far as spidermites bothering your monitor, no. But as far as the mites doing a number on the palm, most definitely. Personally I find mites to be a far greater issue in DRY stagnant air. In humid stagnant air, molds/mildews/fungi would be the primary issues for the palm. Furthermore, large strong herps can almost always be counted on to beat the daylights out of any live plant in the closed confines of a viv. For this reason most folks find it more practical to use fake plants. If you don't care too much about the welfare of the plant, then not an issue either way though expense-wise, again, fake would probably be better.
