Picasso-Peridot Baby Profiles (2018-F)

(Note this post is best viewed in threaded layout, where available.)

Living Gems Reptiles is pleased to finally profile the babies from its 2018 “F” litter.

Born on July 27, 2018 to Picasso (a unique dual-orange male of undetermined age)…

Sire

…and Peridot (an August 2013 dual-orange female; she was the product of a Picasso-Malachite litter)…

Dam

…this litter represents the first pairing of these two animals.

The babies in this litter were striking from Day 1. They display an unusually wide range of color, from dual orange to soft red to dark red. The litter has seven males and eight females, an almost perfect split.

All are now well-tested at a year and three quarters old, with numerous successful meals and sheds. As has been outlined in previous posts, all of these babies come from a disease-tested facility.

As with all LGR litters, we’ve done dozens of handling sessions for each baby, part of our commitment to start acclimating them to humans.

Over the following posts, please find a short profile of every baby in the litter. For each, a short description is provided, noting any behavioral or physical quirks, along with a selection of photos. For dorsal chains, “short” means two to three linked spots, and “long” mean four or more. Please note the term “holdback” means we are keeping the baby as a future breeder. Note we have not chosen all holdbacks yet for this litter.

So grab a cup of your favorite brew, sit back, relax, and enjoy!

If you like what you see, and want first dibs at any babies, you can sign up for our Wait List .

Thank you as always,

This fetching girl has a dark reddish background and orange dorsals. She has several short dorsal chains on her back, and nice prominent side crescents. She also won the feisty award, and visibly demonstrated her tiny wrath at the very idea of “sexing” day.

This charming boy has a reddish background and orange dorsals. His dorsals are all smaller and mostly distinct from each other. He has two unique black dots in the center of her back. His side crescents are medium depth and brightly colored. He was curious during writeup night, and stuck his little head right in my face.

As of early May’s weigh-in, this little gem is the lightweight of his litter, measuring 83 grams.

This gallant girl has a reddish background and soft orange dorsals. Her dorsals are large but show little chaining. She has deep and bright but thin side crescents. She gave me a wary look the entire time I was writing her up.

This young dude was in shed during writeup night, but his dark red background still shown though, in a nice contract to his orange dorsals. He had minor dorsal chaining with heavier borders, and his side crescents are on the thin and shallow side, with several missing entirely.

This gorgeous gal has a soft reddish background that contrast well with her orange dorsals. She has minor dorsal chaining, with one longer chain where the spots do not link but touch each other. She has shallow and thin crescents, but with good color.

This little man has a soft, hard-to-define background color that could go either way. His orange dorsals are on the muted side, partly due to some blushing. He may end up being a nice dual orange like his parents. His side crescents are mostly shallow but bright. He watched me for the first half of the writeup process, then decided to hide his head behind the water bowl near the computer screen. Either that, or he was reading what I wrote.

This little lady is the supermodel of her litter, and my first holdback pick. One glance at her photos will tell why: brilliant color, clean large separate dorsals, and thin but deep and bright side crescents.

This little boy has a dark background and golden orange dorsals. He has little dorsal chaining, but there is a lot of size range in them, with one or two tiny dots mixed in amongst the rest. The dorsals have thick black borders, and his side crescents are mostly thin and shallow, both further heightening his sultry dark appeal. He was soaking during writup night, just having shed, and craned his head out to watch me appraise him.
