Even with a sub $100 point and shoot you can. All you need to do is be bored and have time to take 1000 pictures and find what works for your particular conditions. If you took this same picture with a low ISO like 50 to 100 on macro mode at about half optical zoom and with better lighting it'd look great. If you look closely at your picture you'll find you're focused at a point on the grass which is further away than the snake which is why the snake is blurry.

Re: Pet of the month discussion and comments
99% of my pics come from my mobile phone camera - i have a £500 camera which takes awesome pics but it is always my phone that i have to hand when i need a camera.

Re: Pet of the month discussion and comments
That's always the way. I have seen my snakes do really comical yawn faces, but the camera is never in my hand when it happens.

I will pay shipping for your 500 pound camera to Canada if you don't use it. I'll get a lot of use out of it.

Thanks! To get this I borrowed the nice Canon DSLR camera from my work. This was with the macro lens. One of these days I'll get myself one of these nicer cameras, although I think I'll get a Nikon.
