i believe they are also known as Popsicle Tetras (i own three). I got the whole story from Shane on the dying of these guys, i cant remember it all right now. I will send him this thread and have him shed some light on the situation.

Those are 'painted glass fish'. I believe they are a perch, not a tetra. They are actually injected with the dye I think. Oh, and they dip them in something to remove their slime coat.
They are a brackish fish to boot...
What do you wind up with? A fish that is stripped of it's slime coat, injected with die, and kept in freshwater.
So imagine how long those fish will last...

Oh, and I think they also only tend to thrive with lots of live food and algae. My guess is not many of these guys live long in captivity.

No, the colour doesn't last and quite often they develope a fungus in the areas that they were injected.
Please don't support this market.

Unfortunate, there is alot of species that are now being injected with these dyes...as already mentioned, the slime coat is diminished and these fish not only loose the colouration quickly but they are not long lived. Fungas is usually the main cause of death...all in an attempt to sell more fish that ppl find really colourful. Terrible, terrible, as corr stated, dont support this market.
