Moderator post approval?
Does everyone have to wait for their post to be approved or is it just because I'm new? I'm finding it a bit frustrating!

Re: Moderator post approval?
Thank Spambots & Spammer scum for that likely yep.
I know on the forum I moderate on we have to do so to avoid as many of those as possible.
Some forums are set up that way for anyones first few posts due to SPAMMER SCUMBAGS Mark

Re: Moderator post approval?
Mark is correct, all new member are moderated for their first couple posts in order to keep the spammers from over running the forum. Please believe me that I wish I did not have to do it as it means I have to personally review each new members post. Which is not the problem, but I can not always get to them as quickly as I would like.
Jason

I was wondering the same thing. I've been waiting for a few days now.

Re: Moderator post approval?
I personally think that if a member has not misbehaved in three posts it’s unlikely the individual is a spammer or a one off troll.
It is extremely frustrating to be treated like a kid. I think the admin staff and mods should re-evaluate this process.

I have to back Jason (Boots) on this issue.
I own a forum as well, and these spam attacks almost always occur in the middle of the night (when admin is most likely not online)
There is software called "blog blaster" that silently registers on forums and plasters ads for fake rolex watches, Viagra, software, etc....
This procedure is the ONLY way to keep this sort of thing from happening.
Once a new member establishes themselves, open posting can be allowed.
It's just a sad fact in today's online society. Or cyber society.

Re: Moderator post approval?
They go so far as copying & pasting others posts from other forums, sometimes even the same forum so they can get approved & then once they get approved they go crazy with spam.
Any family type forum has to be set up this way otherwise they would be full of porn etc.
It has nothing to do with treating anyone like a child LOL if anything it protects children from being subjected to porn etc. on what should be a family friendly site, Mark
P.S. I am an administrator & a Mod on another forum as well, I'd say at least 80% of all new members I have to ban as they are just spammers looking to solicit their wares etc.
Like only maybe 1 in 5 actually join the forum for the reason it exists

Re: Moderator post approval?
I am a moderator on 3 forums and admin on 2 etc. I have also experienced spammers and would like the hear more on this “blog blaster" program.
Most spammers spam on their first or second post so to monitor member’s posts for up to 10 or 20 posts is a little over kill in my humble opinion. Seldom if ever does a spammer introduce itself on the introduction and then post spam.
A potential spammer can usually be spotted by the email address, name and the personal profile.
I don’t even activate those that I have a strong suspicion and monitor those who I suspect.

Re: Moderator post approval?
To be honest, I found this forum by backtracking a new member at my forum.
I google search all screen names (especially made up words)
I think the point Jason was trying to make is that he simply cannot sit in front of his computer 24/7 approving posts.
so if it takes him a day or two to approve your post(s) it may seem like he's waiting for your third, fourth etc.. post, when the reality of it is, He just now read your first one.
So even though to you it may seem like he waited for you to post three times, that simply is not true, you just posted a couple more before he saw the first one.
On my forum I won't even let a new member post at all until I check them out first.
So far it has worked out well.
I set my V-bulletin to email me each time a new registration occurs, so I do my best to check them out right away.

Re: Moderator post approval?
IMOO.. do what you wish on your own forum with the rules you have over there.. when on someone elses.. respect them.. don't question them. They were instated for a reason way before you got there so they're not gonna change just cause you have a conflicting opinion of them. As soon as someone has to obide by somone elses rules and don't agree people seem to be threatened by authority hence the mommy/child analogy.
I just find it a bit rude.. then again.. that's why I started this post with In My Own Opinion. You of course, are entitled to your own.

Re: Moderator post approval?
A forum is where we can respectfully share our opinions. No one is being rude by discussing or questioning a procedure that can be avoided.

That was very nicely worded
The entire forum experience will be much more enjoyable by just going with the flow.
I have known of Jason for a few years now, and I feel that you could not encounter a more fair and objective forum administrator.
After all when anyone is on another persons forum, we have to remember that person is paying all the bills.
Envision a forum as if it were the owners home, I gladly allow people to share opinions with me while sitting on my sofa over a cup of coffee, however if someone were to start trying to push their way of thinking on me or my family, I would just kindly show them where the door is.
Disclaimer: the above post is targeted at no one individual in particular, and is simply a matter of opinion.
