Re: Wandering Garters and Slugs

Only certain Garters will show any response to slugs.

Wanderings are garbage cans, if they can fit it into their mouth, they will eat it.

Re: Wandering Garters and Slugs

Sorry guys not to insult or anything but I had to ask because I am very curious. Am I missing something with regards to garter snakes. Why do people have these? Are they feeder snakes? The reason I ask is because they are so common where I live in canada and I would assume they are quite common for most in NAm (norther anyway). Is it a preferred species for most to house? I just see it as not very exotic so was wondering what everyone liked about it.
Again take no insult by this...I am not very experienced in the snake realm

Re: Wandering Garters and Slugs

That's a good question and no offense taken.
They are by far the most active snake in my collection and they go well in a planted enclosure. Just because they may not be exotic to us doesn't mean they are not fun to have around and watch.
My collection also includes ball pythons, Kenyan sand boas, amazon tree boas, and rosy boas. They are all great to have as they all behave very differently in regards to feeding and activity.

Ok Infernalis..... You seem to have quite a collection. How do you make the different morphs? Those can't be natural or at least i've never seen anything close. Are they crossed with something else?
And also wayne, how big is your collection of animals out of curiouslity...I thought you just had the savs lol

I'm not sure if all of them are natural but alot of them are. Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they don't exist.

Re: Wandering Garters and Slugs

omg i totally went crazy over that video. Sooo cute!
I can't wait to own some garter snakes and have them on display in my living room. I'm totally fine with having some common ones. I have some common other snakes in my collection now, and some of them have the best personalities. Some of my unique or exotic snakes are still enjoyable, but not near as much fun.

We went hiking today, and there are supposed to be gaters in my area, but I have never seen any wild ones. Even common every day critters can make great pets! : )
