Unhappy Need Help Herping South FL

I have promised my little brother that I will take him herping at night to see snakes. We always see people on our instagrams here in south fl driving down dirt roads catching all sorts of reptiles and snakes. I've gone on Google maps for a straight year and have tried out about 18 spots already. NONE have brought up anything other than some leopard frogs. (yes, we go at night) Guys please I beg of you, what SPECIFIC trials or roads or anything do you guys herp in? I don't want to catch anything, I just want to make my brother happy and spend a great night with him. I've tried everywhere, someone please please please help me! Thank you so much

Welcome to sSNAKESs!!

What kind of trails are you walking? Do you ever go "off path"? Snakes aren't just laying about, sunning themselves all over the place since most are nocturnal hunters--so, have you been looking under objects you come across?

You are cruising at night, correct? Hiking at night will probably not yield much other than a couple things sleeping in the tree branches. I've never been to SoFLo, but I can tell you that you'll be hardpressed to get any specific spots. While your intentions may be fine, people have had their spots torn up and overcollected too many times in the past to willingly give out spots to strangers.

Stick to your google searches. Find roads with at least one side (although preferably both) with straight habitat on both sides. If there are ditches and tall grass, even better. Just drive down the roads around sunset and a couple hours after and I'd imagine you'll turn up something. If you see a good tree line, walk along it shining your light and you may see some Rough Green Snakes.

On one last note, if there are frogs on those roads, there are likely snakes. I'd keep trying those roads. Try different times, weather conditions, etc. until you get it right.
