Ribbon Snakes

Does anyone have experience with these little guys? My Wife brought me home a couple from petco today. They are cuties, and we had a good time watching them fishing!!!!

Re: Ribbon Snakes

I keep a ribbon.

They are a riot to have around. If you look at that long slender build, they are master climbers, swimmers and burrowers, so they put on a heck of a show in a nice viv.

Branches, vines or limbs are put to good use if you provide them.

Mine eats fish and pinkie mice.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

She brought home half a dozen feeder minnows. I didn't figure they'd eat right away, but after a half hour or so, they started nom noming. It was really fun to watch

Re: Ribbon Snakes

what I do is put a couple thawed out pinks in the water with a minnow or 2.

The minnows will attract the snake, and then the snake will wind up with a pinkie in it's mouth, they keep on swallowing and then go back to fishing.

I have had mine a couple years, and he still will only eat pinks if I put them in with fish.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

Seems minnows are cheaper than pinks, but the snakes are still relatively small, do you recommend night crawlers as well? I want to make sure they get a nice variety.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

Ribbons will ignore worms. They are a semi aquatic snake that prefers amphibians and fish over all else.

Thanks Wayne! We'll get some pinkies with the next fish purchase. Do you recommend 3 times a week?

2-3 times a week, and will sometimes skip a week while in shed.

Re: Ribbon Snakes

Nice pics Wayne. Our little buggers are the florescent greenish color. They seem to have settled down a bit. They each are in their own enclosure and after thoroughly searching for a way out they seem to have decided that they are home now.
