The rarest Garter Snake ever in a US collection!
Say hello to "Cheech" my Mexican garter snake. (Thamnophis melanogaster)
Just a neonate right now, excited to watch him grow up.

In a collection, no. since San Frans are a felony to have. 
Population wise, to my knowledge, the parents & 4 babies are it.
I'm not sure how Scott Felzer obtained his, but they only produced 4 babies, and Scott still has the other 3.

Geographic range: Nearctic - Neotropical: This species inhabits the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Central Plateau from ec. Sonora and wc. Chihuahua south through Durango, sw. Coahuila, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, sw. San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, México and D.F.
They are common in Mexico, I think it is just difficult to get them over the border legally.

I could never sell my sole specimen at any price, but the asking price was over $100 each.
I can set you up with Scott Felzer, He has the only other 3 available right now.

Not sure if the wife would go for that one, but man he looks like a mini bruiser. And the markings on him are just beautiful. My next snake will be a garter by golly!  Do you have a care sheet posted anywhere for these guys? I need to study up.

He's still a little smallish, he eats like a shark, I don't think he's going to be a very big snake.
The other baby in this picture is about the same age. Look at the size difference.
