Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
Rogue, bi-weekly.
Thanks again for the input everyone. He did seem to struggle with it a little bit, especially at the beginning. But in true Malaki fashion once it was down he was up out of the tub looking for more. I used a golf club to lift him back in (really need a hook) and seal him up.
Here pics. Excuse the state of his tub, the paper got wet from the rabbit plus he defecated and I tried to tear up as much of it as I could around him. I put some aspen in after he started eating so he wouldn't be on a bare floor. Gotta be careful though with him still in feed mode. LOL.
I thought I had one of his lump but I must not have uploaded it. Oh well.

Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
Thanks Shaun. Between the regular feedings and the regular exercise he's starting to get into pretty good shape. We picked right up where our friend Shannon left off with his feeding but with her much larger collection she didn't have the time we do to have him out of his cage running around. I couldn't be happier about it.

Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
He really is a fantastic example of an albino burm. So glad he's getting the care he deserves.

Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
He's looking really good, Norm! Maybe it's just me but he looks like he's grown a bit since you've gotten him and he looks a little shinier although that could be from the pics.
I'm truly interested in his growth progress since he's gotten some good humans to take care of him

Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
Thanks Rogue, he has definitely grown since we've gotten him. Both length, about 6" I'd say and a bit of girth. But what's really noticeable to me is how much he's firmed up. Not that he was flabby before but his body has gotten really firm and muscled. I credit his almost daily "walkabouts" on the couch with us or when it's warm enough outside. The only time he doesn't get out is feeding day and a few days after. I know snakes aren't supposed to be social but it really seems like he enjoys himself. And the reason he looks shiny is he just shed a perfect shed a couple weeks ago.
For comparison this pic is almost a year old when our friend Shannon first rescued him. At this point he was 9 years old, had dried shed all over him and had been fed a mouse a month at most his entire life.
And this pic is from the day we brought him home with us back in late January of this year. He'd been eating regularly for 6+ months at this point and you can already see a difference.
Caylan, yes! He gets pink when he's outside but he really gets red at feeding time and like I said this was the most fired up I've ever seen him with all the hissing and stuff. It was like he was saying "I'm built for this". LOL
Here's a pic of the lump 24 hours after feeding. It was funny, 99.9% of the time when the lid of the tub comes up he's right there to greet me and come out but this time for some reason he just sat there like he was sitting on eggs or something.

Yeah that's how it should be!! I think you finally hit the nail on the head for food size! No need to over do it, but that reaction seems perfect to me!

Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
He looks great. I think I mentioned this before but snakes increase their hear rate while digesting food to add in digestion and the increased blood floor can show through on albinos rather nicely.

Re: Malaki; our new/old Burm
When I checked on him again today, he still had a nice sized lump and showed no interest in coming out. Looked happy, though.
