Should I replace it with the one of the mouse being swallowed? Or maybe one of a Rubbermaid full of freshly gassed rats, bodies contorted, dead eyes staring back at you. Better yet a close up of what happens sometimes when you use the bag method. One good argument for changing it is all it will take.

Hmmm....I wonder if my avatar is offensive and I should change it because it represents a paranormal serial killer that slaughters children in their dreams? *sarcastic*

If if you don't agree with him mousekilla maybe out of respect to his feelings on the matter you should change the avatar anyway. Personally I don't care but if he feels that strongly about it then changing it would be a mature and considerate thing to do. Of course you don't have to change it to dead rats or whatever it was you were spouting (I hope you were being sarcastic) maybe a pic of the same child holding a herp or something would be better, it doesn't really matter if the pic is offensive or not the fact is someone is bothered by it much the same way you were bothered by body building. Just for curtisy sake a change would be appropiate. Some people feel very strongly about what actions are appropiate for children.

Jeff, let me mention this, it's been on my mind for a long time now, and this seems like the time and the place to air it. I feel that you avatar is offensive. Myself being a ball python guy, I am completely offended with your pic of a JCP. I feel that with your avatar, you are paving the way for an anti-anything but a JCP sanction. I feel that you should change your avatar bi-weekly to include all other species of snakes. Wow, how close-minded can you be!
P.S. PiebaldGuy, I don't have a birdcage to line, therefore a degree would be useless to me. I do well, worry not.

Personally I don't see a problem with the mouse being swallowed for an avatar, but I may be biased.
as for the kid, she'd be cuter with out the finger...

This thread is so long and off topic I had to go back to page one to figure out who even started the thread and what the reason was.
Good job Solid Snake. Keep up the good work. TB

Sunrunner,
I've offered to change it, several times now actually. All I want in exchange is a single good arguement. I'm not going to do it on the whim someone who is unable to articulate what's wrong with it. I gave those examples to illustrate how foolishly subjective and arbitrary it is to ask that my avatar be changed when many others are potentially more offensive. I have many feeding pics like the one Lisa uses for an avatar and I get way more reaction with those from non-herpers than with the "bird" picture. I don't have any problem with the feeding pics but some will be offended or grossed out. There are other avatars on this site featuring people free-handling hots, some might see this as an endorsement of a dangerous, irresponsible practice but should they be asked to remove them (you know, for the children)? Maybe avatars should be limited to simple pics of herps that aren't feeding or just the smiling faces of members (and not their bratty albino kids). Or maybe we could act like adults and not be so touchy and quick to react to something so silly and benign as a joke pic (guess you don't want to see the one where she's drowning the bunny, eh? JK!). I'm still waiting to hear why my avatar is any worse than any of the examples I've given or how a first grader may be harmed by the knowledge of how to flip people off (which they all do, let's be honest). If someone can do either of those things I'll be happy to change the pic, otherwise I think it should stay until those who complain about such silly things learn to back up their complaints and demands with some thought and reason, so far there has been any of that. If you have something to say then spit it out but for God's sake make some sense when you do.

Albino yes, kid no. This specimen was collected in the jungle in coastal Cameroon. Tests have indicated she is between 40 and 60 years old and full grown. She is believed to be an albino cast off from a tribe of pygmies. I acquired her 6 years ago from a landowner and keep her in a large plexiglass enclosure. I have been trying to tame and socialize her with limited success. She has learned to communicate through a series of hand jestures (like the one you see) but remains unaproachable physically.
