It was actually "those pierced punk kids are no better" that did it for me. I don't even want to get into it, but how can't you know that thats a generalization?

OMG!!! I wasn't intenting to offend and now I keep digging myself deeper...seriously. I don't stereotype I don't generalize
And this is a totally wasted effort at this point. I've been horrifically misunderstood and I guess it'll just have to be left at that. Moot point now.

Meanwhile there's a sneaky boa reading it, you know what I mean?

At a local tae kwon do tournament here there was a little boy about 5 yr old that had his hair dyed blue. Personally I thought he was adorable and was thinking how nice it was that his parents allowed him this creativity. I noticed he seemed quite upset though and overheard a bunch of older kids commenting how this kid was just a punk and on and on. I was disgusted he was 5 for crying out loud. My girls thought his hair was great and so I told them to go tell him that, wich they did and little guy cheered up right away. I also went and spoke to the kids that were talking bad about him. He had earned the right to dye his hair blue by listening in school and getting good marks on his TKD test, got a chance to visit with his mom while he was competing since the girls wanted to watch him 4 yrs old and boy crazy LOL. My girls have all dyed their hair they got to pick the color, lol, they had to pick at superstore though so we got 2 red heads and a blonde!! If I had been at Sanctuary when they got to pick we would have pink, purple and green.

Ok, speaking of little thugs! What is with wearing the jeans half way down their legs? How do they keep them from falling all the way down? I'm all for baggy jeans but why reveal your boxers? Imagine how funny that would look if they wore tighty whities!

Guys, take a second and think about the reality of things. Every generation has their own dominant style / styles. Every generation looks at the generation after them and ridicules them - lets face it, we were / are all outcasts to someone / some people. Not everyone is the same, and the majority of people did some stupid things as teenagers.

HeatherRose,

My law teacher was telling me a story which relates to the modern-day stereotype against those with 'abnormal' peircings. She had her nose and tounge peirced, and was working in Cash Converters in the summer as the school year was over. Working in the jewelerry department, she was approached by a lady who had begun to question what she was doing with her life. She made such comments as "Where do you expect do get in life with those peircings," "Don't you want to make something of yourself in life, instead of working in a Cash Converters," "You're a really good looking female, you can do much better." My teacher replied asking her daughters age, which the lady told her was 12. My teacher replied, "Really, well I am a highschool teacher at Notre Dame S.S, maybe I will see her one day," stuck her tounge out, and walked away.

Basically, the moral of this story is that the unfortunate reality of today, and of every generation in the past and those to come, are full with these often discriminatory prejudices and stereotypes. As a little side note, no employer is allowed to tell you that you have to take your peircings out.

I will admit though, and this is coming from a high-school teenager, kids now-a-days are incredibly disrespectful. I get eight year olds telling me to F-Off, shooting swear words at me that I didn't learn until I was 14! It is a really unfortunate situation - it really disgusts me sometimes. I remember back in elementary, I would be helping out with the kindergarden classes, and on more then one occassion, from several different children, I was sworn at. I couldn't believe it, where do they get this from?

Quote:
" But some of these 'thug' kids in TO genuinely find gangster life an attractive option."

I get a kick out of this myself actually. I was born and raised in Southern California. My grandparents live directly in Los Angeles, my Mother had a residence in filthy Hollywood for awhile, and my Father in Sacramento.

I can only LAUGH and LAUGH when some Ontario raised "Thug" tries to tell me about the ghetto and being a thug. LOL! It's like dude, you live in ONTARIO CANADA, go try and fake people out in a real ghetto. Those people who live in real ghettos don't want IN , they want OUT!

But hey, its the same thing. I don't judge anyone for being into the hip hop culture, just like I don't want them judging me for having piercings and tats. Who cares what people look like anyways, I myself don't have time to worry about what some other person is wearing.

Marisa
Marisa, you have NO idea how much I agree with you. I see these kids at my school, and I can't help but laugh at some of the things I hear. I am in Brampton, and am surrounded by these kids who think they are in Compton, yet living in the suburbs. I have no problem with the hip-hop style, infact I listen to a lot of the music, its just the attitude and the fakeness which is generally associated with this style that I cannot stand.

Unfortunatly, it's not the clothing that people see that gives them these impressions, IMO thats a misconception. It's the attitudes that float around with youth right now, and it just seems a majority wear these types of clothing. Clothing means nothing, expensive or cheap (fake) it's the person wearing it and how they hold themselves, and it seems like theres alot to be said on that these days.....

Marisa, Gino.. Theres alot more going on here than you would know, I wouldn't dismiss that while comparing it to places like Compton, and Los Angeles. Yes those places are pretty bad, but Toronto is getting there. Only we have a very small fraction of their population. I do see what you're saying but Toronto is far from a clean "suburban" city.

Hey Adam, sorry for any confusion, but I was referring to the 'hardcore gangsters' of Brampton. You know, living in the detached houses, wearing Phat Pharm and G-Units, yet apparantly in the ghetto. Brampton is much different from the bad parts of Toronto, we have our problems every now and then, but trust me - they are not living 'the hard life.'

Rudness and disrespect has nothing to do with the way someone dresses. We get some little brats from rich famillies act just as bad as the fake wantabees thugs that hang out at malls. Sometimes I think they can be worse because they know their parents can afford to bail them out. Parenting or lack of has alot to do with it and sometimes it can be the cause of it. There is alot of adults out there who treat people like "servents" God we get adults who come into the store go right to the cash (in front of other people who have been standing in line I might add) say what they want and expect the cashier to stop what their doing and go get it for them and than walk it out to their car without even a thank you!

Kids definately learn it from the parents. At a back to school thing they have here in Edmonton the lines were huge I was there with my sister and our children (totaling 6) and 2 girls around 10-13 tried to cut into the line, I informed them as to where the line started and the took off to the back. Not 2 minutes later they are back with their mom who is pushing them to the front telling them to just go up to the front. I looked at her and said "Gee I thought the kids were bad trying to jump the line but at least now I know where they learned it!" The woman just stood there open mouthed.
