I love the new logo......my only tiny bit of criticism is the color of the lettering. If you want it to pop, try a rich yellow, to highlight the yellow in the snake. It's not too often that yellow is used and it really makes things stand out! You could even out-line it using that cool red in it's eyes, but a thin line.
I like the background!

I think the Python looks great! It is alittle "cartoony" but you can't really help that. Still one of the best drawn snakes on the net. But I still don't like the banner. So I will be bluntly honest for a minute and probably offend a few people:

1. It is way to tall. Cut it to 2/3 it's current height
2. Lose the cartoony stuff. Some really cool things can be done with photoshop with regular pics
3. Lose the scales background, it looks morelike mosaic glass, scales have a pattern
4. PLEASE change the font. Actually, I think "www.sSnakeSs.com" should have 3 fonts. www and com in one, the first and last "s" in another and SNAKES in another.

To me, it looks like I am entering a kid's site. If that is the intent then so be it.

Again, not trying to offend anyone who worked on it. I do alot of graphic design and I know how frustrating it is to work on a project for couple weeks just to have it sh'tcanned. But these are my honest opinions.

One more thing, can we have a nav link at the bottomt o get back to forums so you do not have to scroll all the way to the top to get back?

Yellow on a white background aint gonna work without a very dark outline.

Cool red, not dark. Just my opinion. I think it would work.

They wanted cartoony for a reason - so it would print well.
And this is just my opinion, but...
If you want Jeff to listen to your suggestions, <i>explain</i> them.
I don't mind pointers, constructive crit is great, but if someone was just harping on me without explaining anything...I'd be put off and offended myself.

And personally, I've seen tons of photoshopped stuff. Maybe it's because I'm interested in drawing, but I prefer something hand-drawn (well) over just another photoshopped image anyday.

I thin the cartoon looks great.. very nice pic.. wery well done..

I also agree that is sounds better to say your #1 source for online reptile information ..

Baby blue is nice.. red I dislike... I also think the font is all worne..

As for the back ground .. not too fond of it but i am sure I coudl grow to liking it. I also find that top left corner too empty ... I do think there shoudl be and other animald .. not a snake though in there... to let ppl know its not just a snake website..

Just my oppinons.. its looking great though

You can still desing it very high res and drop it for the web. Why would anyone need to print the logo off the site? If someone needs it, they could email to get an original High Res.

Actually, It doesn't really affect me. I am offering sugesstions because I do graphic design about every day for my company. The logo is not going to deter anyone from coming, including me. But I will explain.

It looks big and clunky. A logo or header should be something people see and remember but should not be the focal point of a page.

Like I said, it looks too cartoony for me. It makes me think that if I click on it, I will be taken to Disney's website. Again, no offense to the designer of the python, it IS one of the most accurate depictions I have seen drawn electronically. And trust me, I know how long it takes to draw on PS from scratch.

That pretty much explains it. It does not look like scales to me. It looks like a grayscale mosaic. It looks more "church" to me than "herp". A herp piece simplified and grayscaled and added to the background as a water mark woul look better to me. Or event he site name in the sam fasion.

That is pretty clear. The font looks like a memo. there are about 10,000 fonts out there. And you would be amazed how much the subtle differences can have an impact.

That is fine. Alot of people are like that. Particularly when people critisize their work. I am the same way. But I am the opposite. I think the beauty of the true object is far better than any "interpretaion" man can make.

If you put the www.sSnakeSs.com above the branch that would leave a perfect spot for you names and stuff for business cards. Also I agree that it needs to be smaller.

Fair enough! I didn't think your comments were wrong - I just wanted to know why. I'm not going to school to be a graphic desinger, I'm going for animation.

I personally still don't think it looks too cartoony though. And not just because I drew it. If they asked for it, I could have drawn them a detailed, lifelike down the last scale drawing. But they wanted this style.
And just because it's animated doesn't mean it's for kids...but I'll spare you that rant.

Just thought I'd let you know that my dad opened IE and seeing as this site is the home page, he saw the new banner.. and he loves it... ahah just thought I'd throw in another opinion...

I'm too lazy to switch my colour settings, so is the font colour different for each setting? I don't like the idea of changing the font, I like it the way it is... 3 fonts would look weird I think, but then I again I may not know what you mean BW... I think it would be too much to have 3 different fonts

I still say great job Youkai... and BW I think they want it to be printable for t-shirts.

I agree with BW Smith about the nav button, i think it's very useful...as for the other things that have been said...i think no one should be offened. It is very constructive for the members of this forum to want to make the best for the forum they like. We all can say our oppinion and Jeff has the final word. I agree that Youkai made a very good job but as BW Smith said it refers probably to kids. Can't it be one for T-shirts and another for ssnakess logo? I understand for those that liked it, this is cruel to heard because they themselves want to offer the best for anyone around here...

I love it now! It looks great!!! A tongue would be really cute on the snake but other than that it rocks! Nice work for everyone who put the effort in.
