Re: SD Retic Pics
Awww, he's looking soo sweet! I really love SD's but in my country they are having rather bad reputation (being the crazy and aggressive like yours).
Hope you'll find a way to calm him, good luck!

Re: SD Retic Pics
SDs can be a bit of a handful when they're younger, but the CBB ones typically calm down as they age and grow. Mine are the gentlest, most inquisitive snakes I own.

Re: SD Retic Pics
We're definitely making progress. The past 2 times I got this guy put he was constricting hard enough to cut off circulation to my hand, stopped biting sooner the last time, today we had no real bites (sinking teeth in) just little taps and he actually relaxed enough to wander across my arms and hands. I think things are going to get better!

Re: SD Retic Pics
He's sweet! And I know how you feel, my first snake is our most defensive one (I bet that she's still super calm comparing to your guy), and as much as I love her I'm sometimes really afraid and am considering selling her... but then she's having a calm day and I'm like "nah, she's soo sweet, how can I even think about selling her?"

Re: SD Retic Pics
Sorry haven't had much of an update on this guy, but today for the first time in the (almost) year that I've had him, he didn't try to bite me when I got him out, he didn't sit there with his mouth gaping, he didn't try to fly out of my hands or musk me... AND he's in shed. Generally when he's in shed its like him, but on steroids lol. He's still jumpy to touch and I wouldn't trust him in the slightest, but I'm just so happy that we're making some progress. I'll make a new thread with some new pics soon after everyone sheds out.

Re: SD Retic Pics
Congrats! At least he's a tiny feisty guy, and not a 15' giant. haha

Re: SD Retic Pics
Thanks guys. BSG, exactly my thinking lol. Thank..nature...he's an SD haha. He was hatched Aug. 26th 2014 and is right at 4 ft, don't have a weight yet but he's still a pencil. Hasn't gained his girth yet. I need to get him mellowed out now while he's still manageable, not when he's 6-7 ft and as big around as a pop can haha. I'm extremely excited about this progress, though.

He looks a good girth to me, comparable to my mainland girl's current girth and she's not much bigger, retics aren't really girthy snakes. He's definitely more girthy than some of the other SD's I've seen. I wouldn't worry about his girth, he's definitely not a pencil.
lol Even 6'-7' shouldn't be too bad, it would be more alarming having a snake of that length showing defensive behaviors than dangerous. I've been bit by my 6.5' BCI and it really wasn't all that bad. My 3.5' ball python gave me a way worse bite than he's ever inflicted.

Re: SD Retic Pics
Yeah basically I just mean he's gotten a lot longer than thicker and generally that's how that works. He's put on a tiny bit of size since those last pics. With 'he hasn't gotten his girth' he's just still a noodle. I realize they aren't girthy snakes but he shouldn't have that body tone as an adult, he should be thicker
No, 6-7 ft wouldn't be too bad which is why I went for SD. I can manage that on my own, being 5'2 and 130 lbs. What I wouldn't have been able to handle is a regular mainland or dwarf on my own-and then if you add a defensive one into the mix..no thanks. I've never really had any bad bites, when I had my BCI's I was bitten by both of them but both barely got me. I've gotten bitten by my retic (not surprisingly) which left just little pin pricks, but strangely my worst bite was from my male rainbow boa. I like to boast he's the best behaved snake I have, with no bite for 2.5 years, and I really learned they all have their bad days. We were tearing his tank down to move and he was in shed, so I was holding him for it. Out of nowhere he jumped forward and bit in between my thumb and pointer finger, really took me by surprise. Haven't had an issue since.
Anyway, here's an updated pic of the jerk at hand. Took these yesterday so he still has yet to shed.

Re: SD Retic Pics
I find myself really wanting a retic due to this thread! I've been torn between a SD retic, a RTB, or a carpet python. I'm really interested in personality so it's hard to choose without getting hands on experience. I plan to go to some reptile shows this year.
