Funny you should ask.
Yes, I accidentally opened up one.
I also firmly believe they have escape "hatches" dug for speedy exits.
I see them excavate a hole, then cover it back over so nice I can't even tell there ever was a hole.
One time, the ground just erupted and a monitor popped out, reminded me of the "tremors" movies.

Dang grabliods, do you ever see el blanco? I am pretty sure my monitor is like a grabloid buttblaster, he launches out at food then takes a nice hard nap.

Cera (the not so friendly one) jumped out of the enclosure to get at the plate of food I had sitting on the floor.
As soon as she saw the plate, she launched off the sill and ran right to the food, wiped it out, then took off running.
So here I am, chasing a panicky monitor around the reptile room, and had to grab her up to put her back in the enclosure. That little monster is quick on the feet when running.
Luckily, no blood was spilled. 
Photo wise only a couple shots worth sharing..
