I totally agree. The bigger the better. The smallest is a 40 gallon breeder tank, and remember, one beardie to one tank.

I have my girls lights on for 12 hrs a day.

Re: im thinking of getting a beardie

I don't understand why a 40 breeder is even a option :\ Thil is a 17 inch long dragon, average if not on the small side and her 40 breeder wouldn't allow her to comfortably turn around at 7 months old :\

40 breeders are only 36 inch tank by like 16 people always say a 4x2x2 or a 40 breeder but they are much different in size

Re: im thinking of getting a beardie

Are you sure your not referring to the 40 gallon long and not the 40 gallon breeder? The breeder tanks give a lot of floor space for beardies instead of being tall. My girl in this picture is close to 18" and she has plenty of space to move around.

Re: im thinking of getting a beardie

K well, I just measured my tank, its a Breeder for sure and I feel she deserves not to have her tail bending as she turns around in her tank.

I'm glad to hear that you can give your beardie a bigger tank I would love to see it. I like seeing different kinds of vivs and getting ideas if I ever decide to build a bigger one! I would be lucky if my girls would use that space, the only time they like to explore is when they are out running around the living room, lol. Other than that they bask under their heat lamp. My girls always bend their tail when they turn even when they are out in the open. Mine don't like to keep it straight, just when they are walking forwards.

Re: im thinking of getting a beardie

Theres a picture in the dragon viv thread, would post but don't want to hijack.

And I wasn't making a shot or anything, I just would rather people think of 4x2x2 as a base instead of a 40 breeder. My girl doesn't always use her whole viv and like your enjoys being outside more but she has days where she enjoys running around in it and that alone makes the space worth it.

Re: im thinking of getting a beardie

My dragon is very small due to parasitic problems when she was younger. I just built her a 4 foot cage but the background is covered in ledges so she has the equivalent of a 6 foot by 2 foot in terms of usable space. I might buy a 36 inch by 18 inch exo terra (same size as a 40 breeder) and cover the background with ledges and stuff and put my small dragon in there and buy another dragon to go in the 4 foot enclosure
