She shouldn't get any bigger. She's an 07 dwarf so she's pretty much done growing.

I still suggest using a snake hook or something similar until she learns to trust you. She could just still be trying to adjust. What's the previous owner's experience with her with handling, etc?

She shoudn't be, she shed just before I got her. So its only been about 2 and a half weeks. She's not dull at all. Definitely gonna get a better hook, like Eli, I've only got the cheap little retractable one.

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
I'm stunned by how little I actually know about the dwarf burmese... somehow I just never got around to looking them up. Great looking girl there, she reminds me a lot of a little Afrock! They have very unique patterns and colours, I sure hope they get classified as a different species some day. I would love a mini rock python! I keep reading their temperament is way different that that of actual burmese pythons, but yours being an adult, perhaps it's calmed down some. Have you noticed many behavioural differences between her and a regular burmese python? Does she eat Rabbits? I need a picture of someone holding her lol... any more pictures would be sweet though!

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
I've got a few more pictures, I need to get a hook before I even attempt to hold her.
Dwarf Burms are their own sub species, Python bivittatus progschai.
Her temper is definitely different from a regular Burm, she's VERY defensive. For the first week if I approached her tub I got a resounding hiss, and then there was yesterday...
I've heard they're similar in temperament to SD retics, flighty and nervous as babies, and can calm down but usually stay somewhat flighty. Almost like they have "small snake" syndrome.
She eats XXXL rats, although I haven't offered yet, I really do want her to settle down before feeding.

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
So what happened yesterday??? Lol. I was hoping they would have the same dopey gentle demeanour that regular burms have. Seems like they take more after the afrock though. I didn't realise they were python bivittatus progschai, I assumed they were molurus progschai.... Guess that means I can get one... if I can find it... Definitely throw some more pictures up if you're willing, she looks great I don't see them enough. Wonder how long until I have one now...

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
Depends on who you ask. Some people will tell you its python molurus bivitattus progschai, I've seen and read the study about why Burms and Indian pythons are different species, but not everyone agrees. I posted a thread where I touched on the topic in this section.
I spoke with the breeder she came from. She's actually a captive hatched dwarf burm like I suspected, but I didn't care so I didn't ask until now since she's an adult. According to the breeder she wasn't worked with much and her temperament isn't typical of dwarfs, although they do tend to be more flighty.
She also advised me to get gloves so she doesn't feel nearly as threatened by skin to scales contact, so I'm gonna have to get a new pair of those too.

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
I'd pick up an indian before anything else if they were available, and not CITES I in Canada. Truly amazing snakes! Would settle for a sri lankan I guess. I'm not sure I'd call them a different species then burmese python... but I guess location means a lot. But then you'd have to reclassify afrocks as well...
I see no problem with CH, they make great snakes. So many wild natural behaviours to observe in them. From what I've heard though, that temperament is a little more typical of dwarf burms, that they more resemble afrocks in temperament. I really need to look more into these guys again obviously.
As for gloves, I'd say don't bother.. though I've never used gloves before.. after a few bite attempts the next response will be flight, since they like to conserve their energy. At least that's what I've found, don't work on rosy boa's though

northern and southern African rocks are similar, they are classified as seperate species or subspecies depending on who you ask.
Gloves were specifically recommended to me by her previous owner.

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
tried feeding tonight, I was quite nervous, and she was too. She just curled up tighter into her corner and didn't even flick her tongue. She's obviously a very stressed girl, so I'm just going to leave her alone for a week and leave the cover over her tub.

these were taken before she tried to take my arm off last week. For reference that bowl is 10" in diameter.

I didn't know where her head was one day, so I tapped her body. Her head poked out about 2 inches from my arm.

one more I guess, her in her corner before I changed her water bowl. I need a better set up for her, currently entertaining suggestions.

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
She's soo good looking, too bad she's so upset... Looks bigger then 5.5 feet lol, so hard to believe they're that small! As for the water dish, at work we had large plastic mixing bowls with flat bottoms, and then we hot glued an appropriate plastic dinner plate to the bottom of it upside down, like a pedestal of sorts... they were virtually tip proof when substrate was packed on top of the plate! Might work?

Re: I shouldn't have... 0.1 100% dwarf burm
I was thinking about hot gluing something like that to the bottom of the enclosure. Only problem is she's a soaker so I would want to put one on that side for her to soak in and another much smaller one for her to drink from.
