Re: Looking for a puppy

They are great dogs!! I love the giant breeds. When I get another dog, I think it's going to be an Irish Wolfhound

Re: Looking for a puppy

Go to a shelter. Cheap put bred dogs are usually bred by back yard breeders and have tons of health and behavioral problems. That isn't something you want in a dog as big as a rottweiler.

Re: Looking for a puppy

mixes aren't neccesarily hardier than pure breds. For example rotti have problems with thier hips, so do german shepherds, so you mix those 2 breeds and the pups have double the chance of having that problem.

Poitash was double whammied by his 2 breeds for skin allergies, and I'll tell you, he is allergic to EVERYTHING!! there are 2 foods on the Canadian market he can eat and he has to get shots during certain season's. He is coming on 13, so I got him back in the day where it was beleived that hybrids are heartier/healthier than pure breds becasue the bloodlines are diluted.

So my advice when you find your dog is to look into common problems for all/both the breeds in the mix and make sure your not getting double whammied by the same health concern.

Re: Looking for a puppy

I think mixes have interesting personalities and some have very unique features. But I will take your advice obviously!

Re: Looking for a puppy

I suggest basset hounds. I am biased, however, since I have the best little baby boy basset in the whole entire world : )

I second this! I had a wonderful Basset named Snooka who was the sweetest, gentlest dog in the world. She loved to play tug o war with all our socks, which was the funniest thing to see
