Re: Jewelled Lacerta UPDATE
I honestly try not to touch them too much there is one that is collapsed but it looks like there is something inside so I dont know if it doesnt hatch I will probably dissect it

Re: Jewelled Lacerta UPDATE
You really don't need to touch them. You can candle them without picking them up. The one that is collapsed and looks like something is inside is probably dried up yolk.
I do wish you the best in JL babies though, and look forward to you posting baby pictures someday!!

Re: Jewelled Lacerta UPDATE
thanks I'm not expecting too much this year I'm using these eggs as my learning curve I expect a much better turn out next year after having this year under my belt I was talking to the only other breeder I know of these lizards and he was telling me he didnt brumate either for this season and his turn out wasnt good either
These lizards are delicate in terms of their breeding cycle which is funny considering how hardy they are as lizards

Re: Jewelled Lacerta UPDATE
Hello folks this unfortunately will be my last update for the season. The latest clutch that she dropped were all slugs again which is to be expected since no brumation took place
My pair has been brummatimg for three weeks my male looks good my female looks like she is loosing a bit of weight so I will be monitoring her but since she laid eggs in the fall instead of spring I may end brumation at 4 weeks instead of the 8 weeks that is listed on what information I do have
So this year not so good in the way of hatchlings but considering she is a young female and dropped 25 eggs for me without needing assistance makes me happy besides if I get hatchlings it's a bonus I just love these little guys
So thanks every one I will update again once I have some mating news

Re: Jewelled Lacerta UPDATE
well its been exactly 15 days since my last post. I stopped brumation on November 5th. My female is back to being nice and plump and today I witnessed them lock up.
Its a little worrying because she laid eggs not too long ago... I feel like I did something wrong brumating them when I did... but she is active and eating like a champ she probably ate 30 crickets (large) today
well on the plus side I will have at least 4 weeks before I see any eggs IF I see any eggs...

Re: Jewelled Lacerta UPDATE
^^ indeed
There is very little information and what IS out there is flawed I managed to find the only other breeder of these guys in Ontario and found out that they sold their 1.3 colony. They gave me some really good tips especially in terms of lighting and nutrition (I wasn't using enough UVB) when I started with my male there were no real care-sheets and when he was being kept they didnt use any UVB and so neither did I
He thrived doubled in size in the first 6mos, shed, ate, was active as heck, pooped like a machine so no problems right? Well when I introduced my female I didn't change my husbandry and again she thrived, she too grew a nice thick tail base and filled in nicely ate and pooped like a machine and they mated again I didnt change anything and that was my mistake.
Though I doubt her eggs were viable I didn't provide the UVB she needed (stupid me I know) again I read caresheets and NOTHING no info after going to that breeder who is a friend of my normal supplier so I could trust the info they were giving me
They gave me some great tips and some pretty intense bulbs to use and mama is doing great she even likes her new pregnancy diet which is gecko superfood with a little added calcium powder and lots of dusted crickets, and horned worms they recommended I cut up hoppers for her to eat because of the bones but we'll see they have been locking up multiple times a day
and in a couple weeks I will put her lay box back into the tank and then wait I guess
