Re: What are your pet peeves?

I dunno about other parts of the world, but in western canada a t shirt/hoodie, loose fitting jeans and basic skate or athletic shoes have been the overall "norm" as long as i can remember (for mens fashion).. Nowadays im seeing more and more people wearing skin tight jeans with the waist just above the knees, long sleeve shirts that would best fit a 6 year old and high-HIGH top sneakers that would even look embarrassing in the 80's.. No offense to anyone, but this post asked what our pet peeves are, and this is sure one of them

Re: What are your pet peeves?

I had to vent on this situation..it has me steaming mad. A while back I met a couple who claims that they've been keeping snakes for years. They were interested in a pair of Savu pythons I had made an offer on and was waiting for confirmation. I ended up getting the Savus, and promised the couple I'd keep in touch and sell them babies, since they talked about how much experience they had with snakes. Well, since then we've been in touch and they have done some stuff which just flabbergasts me. They had a GTP die of neurological symptoms and mouth rot about a month ago (symptoms of BOID but very fast onset of signs to death- less than one week). They were posting all over Facebook that their snake died of BOID without getting any testing done. I told them to keep quiet until they had test results or they'd probably ruin their reputation. I gave them information on several similar diseases and vets that could run tests for them, but apparently they never bothered. They've also since bought more snakes and haven't quarantined anything!! Also, the lady was telling me her hogg island boa died the other week. I felt bad until I heard how- apparently they were housing the baby boa with an adult BCI and a ball python. The BCI killed and attempted to eat both the other snakes. WTF??? Really??? You've been keeping snakes for years and didn't know that you should never house them together???? Also, they potentially have BOID in their collection and they're bringing more animals into the house..and not getting any testing done. Come on! I am soo glad I bought the pair of Savus and they didn't. Ugh, makes me so mad. I am trying to be helpful but it was hard not to rip them a new one when I heard about the Hogg island boa.

Kim please turn them in to animal control so know more poor animals suffer at their hands.

I am not sure exactly where they live or any such thing. I told them they need to seriously reconsider whether snakes are for them, and whether they can care for their animals. If you don't have the space to individually house snakes, don't get more. If you can't afford veterinary care and testing if things go wrong, don't get snakes. Same way you wouldn't get a dog if you couldn't afford the vaccinations, don't get a snake if you can't afford the potential costs. I told them that and hopefully it will sink in. I also haven't been talking to them since I heard about the snake eating those other snakes. I chewed them out about improper housing and unnecessary deaths and how they should never get more snakes if they cannot afford to house them or don't have the space. If I hear of any more negligence on their part, I will have to try to turn them in. Unfortunately, animal control in PA doesn't do much in the way of protecting reptiles. Unless there is some sort of public danger, they really don't care. It's sad, but we herpers are better off trying to police each other.
