Why? Because if you can't indulge in your interests because you're worried about what other people think, the few remaining interests you would have would be in common with everybody else leaving nothing at all to make you a unique individual, thus you'd be one boring as hell person.

I don't think being a nerd makes me more of an idividual then a person who likes mainstreem things. It's just a matter of choice, whos to say that all these trendy "cool" people don't actually really enjoy the things that they do. The things I do, the things all of us do make us almost the stereo type, but for me I could care less, I happy and at the end of the day no matter how I'm seen by anyone else that's what matters.

And her my husband figured we should be on everyones cool to know list!! LOL, Own a Tae Kwon Do school, both have our Black Belts, parents of triplets and have 20 pythons!! Boy I'm gonna break his heart when I tell him we are nerds. LOL

It's not that being a nerd makes you an individual... it's about being able to express yourself as an individual whether or not it makes you a nerd. Anyone unable to express themselves outside of the social majority would have a hard time differentiating themselves, nerd or not.
