Marisa, if you read my post correctly and with more attention you'd realize that the SILENT auction's proceeds went to Reptile Rescue, Canada, and not the auction that was going on in the HALL.
You seem very angry about the whole show, try to relax. I'm sure nobody cares anymore regarding the vendors that didn't show. That's their problem. Let's get on with our lives already.

I understand where Marisa is coming from in all of this.. I have seen a few times it mentioned that the vendors that didn't show, could have let so and so know, so that they could have been more prepaired.. When i first saw the vendors list, i spoke to a couple of the mentioned vendors who in turn told me that they weren't doing the show and didn't know why their names were on the list.. I don't think Marisa is speaking out of anger..

I don't doubt that at all, that some vendors' names weren't taken off the list even though they clarified that they weren't going, they should've been taken off the list...it just seemed she was angry that's all, that's how i took it. Maybe I was mistaken... I just know how much trouble Nadia went into getting this show together, and for all these negative posts to come out of it is a shame really, and not called for in my opinion.
I really liked the show, met tons of great people, and for me that's loads of fun.
I'm sure it'll get better next year.

Haha, you obviously don't know Marisa very well then, she just likes to hear herself speak.. I'll admit, i expected better, but looking back on it now, it was a first time show, so i shoudlnt have expected to much more.. Our table didn't do too great, a lot of window shoppers and a lot of questions, but atleast we got to talk about what we were there for .. And i also met a few new people that i hadn't spoken to before, so it wasn't a complete loss..

Angry? LOL You must be joking. I spoke truth not anger. I am sure your thoughts are true as well and they are an opinion just like mine. I just added another side to the replies. Plain and simple.

Lol. Guess i'll have to get used to her ways.
But you're right, definently not a total loss, met lots of great people. I think both shows (Pcpc, and Newmarket) were really dead, most likely lots of people were away at cottages/vacation. September show should be phenomenal though.

Some of the vendors didn't show up because they didn't fully agree to coming. thats why they didn't go. before the show i talked to a few people who said they didn;'t want to go, yet there names were still on the list. so you can not be mad at any vendors for that.

Well, for a first show, I thought it went pretty well. We did alright for sales, though a good chunk of it was to other vendors. Definitely more promotion needed, and directional signage on the nearby streets. I was looking for it and missed it, and apparently so did others. It didn't help that 'Doug Duncan Drive' seems to be a fairly new name for the street. My map books have it as 'Civic Centre Drive' or something similar, and they're only a couple of years old.
Also, though I regularly check forums here at ssnakess.com, I did not know about the show until the PCPC expo. If it is a public reptile event in southcentral Ontario and I don't know about it, then it hasn't been promoted well enough!!!
We'd do it again. I think there is tremendous potential there to reach a bunch of people who aren't 'in the hobby' already. That should translate into people needing to buy stuff.

About the burm being auctioned off...it was basically between 2 people and they knew it...one was a vendor and the other was holding 8 snakes he just bought so both knew what they were doing.
As for some people actually getting mad at mark for auctioning, from what i understand people thought HE was getting something out of it, and this is totally false. He was just being asked to do it, and he figured hey no one is really selling to much (just my assumption).
And that stupid burm bit me lol but yea what im saying is we would have known not to sell to a little kid or anything..plus their was no one their to even sell it to other then vendors who already know how big this things going to get.
If their is an impulse buyer who wants a burm, hes going to get it for etierh 100 or 50 and still realize he ended up with a big arse snake. Maybe if it was sold for a dollar, anyone would throw it in and take it, but 50 is somewhat of a decision to make.
Anyway i liked the show..very slow..but met a bunch of people and im slowly making my way into the reptile crowd lol

Whether the person knew what they were bidding on or not, a BURM should have NEVER been auctioned off, especially at a show that's being sponserd by Reptile Rescue... As for him being asked to do it.. I saw him and a couple other's from that table walking around asking if they wanted to auction off stuff, they even asked us...
I think if you go back and read all the posts in this thread, you will see that that is not the reason people were getting mad at the auctions.. It was actually pretty funny to see vendors start packing up when the auctions were going on...
Oh well, it was a first time show, it can only get better, let's just hope the organizers get wind of this thread, cause there have a been very good posts with good points and ideas for next time..

I had to get home and release that crested gecko that hatched earlier during the day. He was cooped up in the delicup with no place to go.... yup, that sounds good. Yes, that's it, that's why I had to get home. As it is, we only got home around 7:30 and still had a lot to do.
