agree. I mean we are all entitled to our opinions. I mean yes it is true, likeone member said, we eat cows, and cattle are reveered in some countries (India for example), we also keep dogs as pets, but some countries breed dogs for food (Korea)

Now this is the point, we breed cattle for food. yes, but to someone whose culture reverrs cattle, well that still may not feel right, personally just because Korea 'breeds' dogs for food, does not make that ok in my mind, it is still disturbing to me. I understand it is their culture, but I still don't agree with it. I don't put them down because they do it, just if ever I went to Korea, well, I wouldn't eat dog.

So yeah that is my opinion. does not mean I am right or wrong, and yes I know 'how can I judge another persons culture when our cultures appear to be just as disturbing to another' well, I am sorry but it does. But I won't go around putting other people down because of their beliefs.

As for the Bonsai Kittens, ok, I was ignorant. I admitted that on my last post, I have no problem admitting I was wrong, but people calling me stupid because of it, well that is just plain rude and mean IN MY OPINION. I am sure that other people also may have believed it (even though a little word of doubt may have been present, the same voice may also say, well maybe....) and maybe even people on this SITE believed it... but they may not admit it. I did. But pleas, no need to call people dumb or put them down because they fell for a 'satirical joke'.

I'm assuming, Mike, that your last post is in response to mine, although you don' t say that specifically, and I have to confess to not understanding some of what you say. The phrase 'evil animal killing politicians' has gone over my head! What are you talking about?!

Anyway nevertheless... sorry to offend - I did say 'regardless of politics'. I'm observing 'events', and perhaps, in hindsight, I should have put a big 'IMHO' disclaimer on my post.

And I certainly don't want a 'debate' and I'm not going to rise to the jibe about the oil, which I note you couldn't resist! The fact is that the ordinary people in many parts of Iraq, at this moment in time, are in a terrible state. They ATE all the animals in Bagdad zoo, for goodness sake, because they had no food!!! Nothing there to debate. Just an 'interesting' fact.

And none of my whinge was in any way aimed at anyone else's 'opinion' (I am in fact agreeing with most of the previous posts on the matter), rather at the 'people' in general (including myself!), who are on the cushy side of the rich nation/poor nation divide. I added my 'opinion' to the previous contributions, which were already comparing the various perceptions of different cultural practices, and how easy it is for us to sit behind our computers railing on about someone in a far-off land doing something we instinctively feel is wrong/not nice/strange, whatever.

To sum up the point I was trying to make in a much more succinct way;
I think that we individuals in the Western world cause more environmental harm each day than the individuals in less fortunate societies. IMHO, that is, since I can't be bothered to trawl for facts and figures.

Oh, yes, and whilst I agree wholeheartedly that politics are not welcome on this forum (and this is enforced by the moderators), I think this topic was about wildlife, the environment, and culture, and I stand by my comments, being that they are MY opinions. I certainly have no problem with others disagreeing, but please don't twist my words and then tell me what I should and shouldn't bring up. Thanks. And sorry to everyone else.

I don't know HOW politics came up... more specifically the oil and the animal killing politician deal.

The ONLY problem I have with this type of thing, is when it puts animal populations at risk. Let's face it, dogs will never be at risk of going extinct, therefore I have no problem at all with people them. Same with rats, cats, etc (except I can't fathom how dog and cat would taste good... but oh well!). And has anyone paused to consider what raising cattle has done to OUR environment? Do you honestly believe that wildlife can live and flourish the same it could if thousands upon thousands of acres weren't destroyed to make room for cows?

And Dark angel... no one called you stupid. We're just a little surprised how people can still think it's real when it's been proven fake ages ago. I know lots of people used to believe it. Maybe you didn't get the memo

Brig - very well put! I completely agree, that's it's so very easy (not to mention hypocritical) to sit here and say "ewww that gross how can those cruel snake torturers do that?" When we can walk 5 minutes to the grocery store and buy a big hunk of pre-raised, pre-killed, pre-cut, pre-washed meat to bring home and eat.

I've noticed the bid has gone up to 50$... while I am saddened by the fact that such a lovely, rare cobra was exploited for this, I once again cannot criticize another culture.

In fact, my father has a cobra in a bottle that he received from an asian guy he met. I can't say I was pleased with the whole thing, but then again, if someone were to give me a leather saddle I'd be ecstatic. Just goes to show.

Whats so weird????......different cultures different trips.....Not different than Python Boots or Fur coats or Insulin..or Steak for that matter...animals are used for lots of stuff...even if somethings are not to western tastes
