Re: Introducing Nygma
Far too little food for a growing carpet of that size. That's why he hasn't gone into shed. He would with ease take 60-70 gr rats.

Re: Introducing Nygma
I used the 'feed 10% of body weight' rule to determine when to switch my carpets to small rats. After thawing them I had a hard time believing that they'd be able to manage the meal. I certainly wouldn't have offered my colubrids a proportionally sized meal. But then they took them and resumed their perches to look for more. So, you're probably safe to step them up.

Re: Introducing Nygma
I agree with the others. Looks like it's time to increase his prey size. A small rat sounds about right for your guy Nygma. I feed my young carpets 10-15% ( sometimes a bit more) of their body weight per feeding also. That's a pretty good guideline to use. I feed my hatchling and juvenile carpets every 7 days and the adults eat every 10-14 days.

Re: Introducing Nygma
Zelg- You know your snake better than we do. We're just guestimating prey size based on the pictures you posted. If you feel more comfortable feeding smaller prey items you can always offer more than one. Just for comparison sake my 230g Bredli eats a 25g rat pup every 5 days. Your Jag is easily twice as big as my guy and you're feeding him every 10 days. I'd heard and read that carpets could take down pretty large prey but when the breeder told me that my 125g coastal could smash a 33g jumbo mouse I tried and saw for myself. My carpets eat 40g chicks at 250g. Don't stuff your carpet but don't underestimate them either.

Re: Introducing Nygma
Ah thought I responded about him eating last week. Well he took a small rat no problem. It looked a little big for him but with him up on his perch afterwards I could barely tell he had anything in him so, small rats it is. He'll be getting another tonight. Thanks for the advice guys.
Also, got a phone upgrade so of course I have to include his new headshot lol.
I love looking at his eyes. So cool looking.

Re: Introducing Nygma
The little buggar finally shed last night. After bumping him up to small rats, he ate 1 rat two weeks in a row and then went into his hide and stayed there. The third offering was refused and i was getting worried about him no longer perching and being in his hide constantly. Fed him again a few days ago from his hide and his feeding response was normal again. Worke up today with a beautiful shed, not one tear in it....until i tore it while unwrapping it lol.
I feel so much better now that hes shed.

Stunningly gorgeous snake. Love the markings. I'm very much looking forward to carpet ownership-beautiful things...

Ah, that's a slippey slope. Next it will be modeling contracts and exotic location photo shoots, drug addictions, extreme diets, etc. IMO it would be better to maintain a lower profile and let Nygma live a quieter life... lol.
