Re: 2017 California Red sideds...

How do you convince the little ones that they want to eat?

Well, I have been offering different things to elicit a feeding response. I started with nightcrawlers diced up with Reptivite multivitamin powder dusted over them on a little inverted 32oz. Juice jar cap. Some of them enjoyed that right away but others just hid or didn't investigate the food offered. Before that, I did separate them into smaller groups of 4 as it's easier to see who is feeding best and who are the slower ones. The picky ones I offered live guppies. I had some Sally's f/ t silversides diced up mixed with cut up nightcrawler and also dusted with Reptivite. So, a little variety seems to have gone a long way with these guys bc now I am seeing a little growth. I tried cut up pinky mice parts earlier on but none of them went for that. Probably will be different soon.

Re: 2017 California Red sideds...

All of the babies are doing well and love musking their handlers. They havent been bitey at all but now as they get more size it will help to handle them every other day. Exceptions being day before and after feedings. The second adult female isn't going to produce this time. I am trying to put a different male to her later this year.

They're pretty spectacular! You should be proud of them - a great clutch.

Thanks db. I am very proud of them but they were challenging to get started feeding. Unlike the checkered species, these guys (reds) just have different behaviors.

These guys and gals are going to be crazy good looking as adults. This little gal is in shed now and she is going to be one of the power eaters. Like her mom!

. Thanks EL. It's really the passion that keeps me producing. It does help to have some top line animals to pair together. Reptile reproduction just never gets old!

Thanks Mink! The diversity in the litter is amazing. I am so happy to have been successful with these guys though.
