I agree that one of the above "Thanks" systems needs to be in place, but not partial to either.

I think the thanks system is a good idea, not the karma point thing though. Trolls end up abusing it and everyone gets negative points for no reason...

The only two places that use karma I know of have restrictions on the negative. One is you have to have so many post and the other you have to pay a subscription.
