Stephan is correct. Although the '14 feet' is often quoted, there is no reliable record of one exceeding 10 feet.

I thought the record was twelve feet? Maybe that's where the "reliable" part of it comes in.. LOL.

Re: 1.1 Crocodile Monitor (For Sale)

As far as I know, the largest Komodo dragon was 3m, perhaps a bit more. Around 10 feet.

The record for longest monitor was apparently a Sri Lankan water monitor that was a bit over 3m. It would have been much smaller than a large Komodo, though, because of the tail/body ratios of those two species.

I'm sure somewhere deep in the jungle there is a Shaquille Oneal version of a salvadorii or komodo that shatters all previous records. Record breaking lengths for reptiles is always exciting news to me, like that salt water croc recently which I believed passed away after being taken into captivity :-/

Re: 1.1 Crocodile Monitor (For Sale)

That saltwater crocodile is a good example. It was well within the expected maximum length for saltwater crocodiles. It was a record in that, while it was still alive, it was the largest in captivity, but it wasn't the maximum sized saltwater crocodile ever found.

However, at 6.1m it was also well short of the '8m' often claimed maximum length. It was the equivalent of a 3m croc monitor, whereas the 8m claimed maximum would be the equivalent of the claims of 14 foot croc monitors.
