What would you trade for? If you don't have time for this then how can you have time for anything else? Or the money for it?

School is important and I gave up all my animals when I went to school. You'll NEVER get money out of the most common monitor out there that you can find for FREE all over craigslist and other online "rescues".

LOLOL to you getting anything out of it...including his enclosure...

Re: Please read this post !!!!!!!!!

How big is he at this point? How was he kept? What does he look like? If he is healthy and you pay me 50-100 for food for a month (not every month just once because I am also a student but I have little money currently. Steve is still a very high priority, his food comes after mine.) I will consider it. I do want another lizard to be with Steve but if this lizard wasn't properly kept or isn't healthy or has a bad temperament then I wouldn't want it.

Re: Please read this post !!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but how do you know now that you don't have money for him, yet you had the money to blow on him and his enclosure and supplies? And knowing you were in school?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you sell him, it won't be someone who is going to care for him properly. Chances are very slim. Do the poor guy a favor and give him to someone who will actually care for him properly.

I wouldn't want another Sav if it was mean. I have one already and it seems risky to introduce two to each other in the first place. That one is about the same age as my current one.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but savannah monitors aren't ever mean. They're defensive, and a sav that isn't defensive is likely very very sick. You know? It seems like if you're in the market for another savannah you would want one that seems "mean." A "tame" sav is likely undermetabolized, cold, or suffering from organ damage.

Re: Please read this post !!!!!!!!!

I didn't say I wanted a tame one. I just don't want to introduce 2 savannahs to each other if either is overly defensive. Mine can be defensive over his space, but I can pick him up without him attempting to whip me or hiss at me.

Look at Wayne's monitors, both raised in great conditions, Cera is more aggressive and defensive where Littlefoot is less and able to be handled.

I guess I should have said less aggressive.

Re: Please read this post !!!!!!!!!

Just to clarify, so we are all on the same page....

Littlefoot, although the calmer of the two, will tolerate me holding him in my hands for roughly 30-45 seconds before he squirms and his toenails start digging up my arm.

Yes he's friendly, but at the same time has boundaries that I have to respect.

Most times when his feet hit the floor, he's off on a mad dash unless I have food to keep his interest.

Cera is calming down a little bit at time passes, has even jumped off the sill into the reptile room a couple times leaving me with no choice but to quickly scoop her up and put back into the cage. Neither time did I get bit.

I don't think he's asking for a "tame" sav, he's making sure it's not a mean one. There are mean ones out there. They aren't mean towards people so much, but are very territorial towards other monitors, and don't do well sharing space with others. Those animals usually make good pets or display animals, just not good breeders or cohabitants because they may kill the monitors in their cage.

I really don't think OP is going to know any of that though.

Re: Please read this post !!!!!!!!!

wayne's are different sexes,as well, so that probably plays a role in them being able to be housed together....is that true, wayne?
i honestly wouldn't introduce animals to live together anyway. there is quarentine time, and just general observation of the animal...you don't want to get your current animal sick with anything.

many people get lizards or snakes, take on the ownership and responsibilty of caring for another living thing, then decide to go do something else with their lives so they give it up.
many of us are frustrated with that pattern. no forethought. it also suggests the animal wasn't taken care of properly, as this person has a pattern of "moving on" when things don't suit them...so who knows how this animal has been housed? could be half starving, could be dehydrated...this casues a big issue for the person taking it from them. usually means vet care and at the least time invested in bringing the animal back up to health, IF it can be done..many times they die from the long term exposure to bad husbandry.

which, if someone got an animal, then goes to school and wants to get rid of it...USUALLY, not always, but usually suggests the pattern of lack of care, and bad husbandry despite them saying "oh i love this animal".

Now if we take this person's name into consideration..."retpile seeker"....come on. This clearly sounds like they are into the thrill of getting pets, having them, then getting rid of them.
It's possible they get them, then take CARE of them, then get rid of them....but presidence with others like this suggests that the animal is in poor condition.

just so those of you reading can understand some of the sarcasim and frustration from the rest of us. people doing these things is what makes the hobby look bad.
little do they know, it makes that person look bad as well.
what does it say about their personality?
just the fact that you commit to however many years of care that animal requires, then you give it up for any reason, says a lot about the person.

i just don't get people who do this. Even if it was an impulse buy in the beginning....at some point, didn't they ever google anything about the animal? it lives for YEARS and years.
just try to figure out if your prepared for that before you try to home the animal and make a mess like this.

no one seems to actually care about the welfare of the animal. and usually people like this are repeat offenders. i can think of at least two offhand who do this on a regular basis then act righteous on the forum. drives me crazy holding my tongue.

Re: Please read this post !!!!!!!!!

by the way, i went and lived in a dorm, then an apartment for years while i went to school. i didn't have this story. so don't act like "oooh going to schoooooool" is like, the end all to having to give up animals. please.

poor broke student, too. Please. get a job. if you love your animal so much you wouldn't sell it. if you LOVE your animal, and you truly can't take care of it for a valid reason, give it to someone who will. that is what people are trying to say.

your posts clearly just act like you want money. pooor broke student. go take out a loan for living expenses. write a good paper, and get a grant. you're "going to school" so you should know how to do those two things at least. They also have part time work available through the school for low income, i know, i did it.
they WILL find ways for you to afford your living expenses.

just seems like a weird option. also, any excuse you come up with is not good enough. Just admit you got an animal, don't want it anymore, and you want money. don't go on with the talk of "oh i just want a good home for it". think about it...you want money for something you just don't want to take care of anymore.
I guess we all just want you to admit that as well.
you won't get so many negative posts if you just present things truthfully.
