With Christmas only a few days away it seems like an appropriate time for this older photo of Tank.
Tank was about 6 lbs in this photo. Look at those skinny front legs and neck. He was such a little boy in that photo. He's now 19.60 lbs.
He spent the day sleeping on the couch.
I re-posted the second photo for a comparison

Tonight while I worked on my laptop Tank woke up and stuck his head out from under his blanket. After a few moments I notice he was giving me a strange stare. It appeared he was looking at the top of my head. Then I realized he was looking at the head set I was wearing. I took it off and let his see it up close and smell it. He is such a curious turtle and very observant.
After that was done I spent some one-on-one time with him. We were as close to each other as the photo suggests. He is such a calm turtle.
I have never worked with a turtle like him. He seeks out interaction and wants me as close to him as I can get. If he's in his water he will stretch his neck out to be close to me. I can honestly say we have bonded. Very unusual behavior for a snapping turtle or any turtle for that matter. His attitude is the same whether he is hungry, tired or full. I hope to get many more years with this awesome turtle.
Wow, this is an amazing bond between the two of you....Nothing can break a bond like that!
How old do these turtles usually live for?

Amazing turtle. Do you suppose he will stay this calm and friendly once he becomes sexually mature?
He's been sexually mature for the past 2 years and his attitude remains the same. At one time I had another male snapping turtle in the house and Tank would walk over to his enclosure and pick a fight with him through the plastic. It was amazing to watch all the posturing that went on. Tank was intent on fighting this rouge male that was in his territory. The interesting part was the fact I could pick him up during these times and he never struck at me. He was in a fighting zone but not enough to bite me.
Here's a photo of Tank's first year as a man turtle. He was a little confused I would say.
Snapping turtles tell you what's going on with their eyes. I've learned to read Tank very well. They have a lot of looks and body language. I have a friend who rescues snapping turtles. I helped him change those turtles one day. They had many of the same looks that Tank gives. He also has a common male named Stormy that only gives one look. "I will bite you" He's the fastest and strongest turtle I've ever seen. Did a jump spin on me andf almost grabbed my arm. I thought I was safe but he proved me wrong. I love that turtle. Pure dominant male attitude. He's all business.
