Royals Pythons are Ball Pythons, Males are normally no larger than 4ft while females can get to 5ft. They do not get to 8ft.

Re: 6-8 foot python?
Get a children's python, although I don't think they get as big as 6 ft.

Re: 6-8 foot python?
a carpet python would be your best bet mate
if you buy a placid adult, they usually remain placid their whole lives (20 to 30 years)
or you could buy a hatchling, most are placid but some require some handling to calm them down
easy to keep and generally a very hardy species
they also come in lots of different patterns and colours
cheers shaun

Are you joking?... No they're never going to reach anywhere near 8 feet.. Are you sure your not getting confused with blood pythons? Superficially they look similar, as in short fat bodied snakes but get longer than a royal.

Ball pythons absolutely do not reach 8 feet.
Op, go with a super dwarf retic or a coastal carpet python.

Once you get a carpet there is no turning back.

Re: 6-8 foot python?
Had a customer come into the LPS once claim she had an 8-ft ball python once. Upon further questioning, she insisted it was a ball, not a Burm. I said show me, bring it up here to the store, so we can take photos and put on our bulletin board and website! Never saw her again.

AS one who primarily keeps Dums (they are also a good choice btw), I also have a pair of Carpets and yeah I do agree with this, there is no turning back.

Re: 6-8 foot python?
I heard of a recently discovered locale of ball python that reaches 7-8 ft. I don't know if they exist, but I saw a vid of a guy with one that he claimed to be said locale, and if it wasn't 7 feet it was definitely 6, if not 6.5 ft. I know that's not much to go off of, but there's at least a rumor of them. (If I can find the vid I can post a link, for all I know I could be off about my guess of it's length.)

Re: 6-8 foot python?
Well, I'm trying to decide between a carpet python or a Central american boa. Temperament is important to me as well as size. Which tends to get bigger? And which is less nippy?

Re: 6-8 foot python?
Well, the nippy part depends...would you want a baby carpet? Cause they can be super nippy until handled a lot, but once they chill out are amazing. Boas aren't very nippy at all, even as babies (at least in my experience). Do you want a hardier snake, or one that has super high humidity requirements?
