I'm sorry Jlassiter for some reason I got you and alessia confused . I too believe in giving the animal lots of options. I just didn't fully understand what you meant when you said "lighting" will dehydrate the reptile.

Lighting...If used in conjunction with an aquarium or a plastic tub will dehydrate a lampropeltis. I never said reptile.... as lizards and other reptiles benefit from lighting - UVA/UVB.

Lighting can be used correctly though, but most do not have the type of enclosure or the "know how" yet to set up an optimal enclosure......
Most follow TFH or online caresheets that does not optimally provide for a lampropeltis......

Regards,

Regards,
I was referring back to the lampropeltis when I said "reptile". I tend to be lazy like that and I really should kick the habit. Especially when trying to make a specific point or seeking clarification.

Will all lighting dehydrate this species? I never had any trouble when keeping a light in the enclosure. Of course I provide a sweatbox and access water at all times not to mention a hide and enough substrate to burrow in if desired. I think a lot people don't realize that lighting is an option when it comes to snakes.
That wasnt Alessia. That was John Lassiter. Hes a big time Colubrid breeder and a particular expert on Lampropeltis. I would assume he meant that this type of snake is particularly sensitive to the dehydrating effects of this type of lighting.

Yeah we got it worked out I'm not really sure how I got them confused.

Are you prepared to take responsibility for some moron putting his snake in a blue Rubbermaid and shoving it in his closet because" lighting is an option for snakes"?

Actually my advice is pretty good, but I haven't offered any itt. I only offered an opinion about lights being optional. Someone who would be ridiculous enough to do what you're suggesting I should take responsibility for, probably wouldn't care enough to do any research at all. Anyone who cares enough to research their "pet" is most likely gonna follow common practices leaving your rebuttal irrelevant. Your attack on the OP was uncalled for.

Thank you for your infinite wisdom. Please keep it to yourself as I don't like the smell you make when you speak.

As for the op they coming on here claiming how they are rescuing a snake that is in terrible living conditions and thanks to John (not me) we find out she doesn't know much about their proper husbandry. Nobody should come here with a bogus "rescue" story and expect me to not point it out. If you have a problem with this I suggest you read the rules as i am sure there is one that*says "Kevin will not tolerate hokey rescue stories".

Now if you so desire I can start attacking as I am not in a very good mood. Speaking of which where is Aaron? At least he puts up an intelligent argument.

Further more, we did have someone on here telling us a story about how they or someone they knew kept their snakes in three open aquariums in their closet.

Open aquariums in the closet is different than a rubbermaid, don't you think? I'm not saying it's right, but still not the same as what you described. OP obviously needed some guidance in the right direction, which was provided courtesy of Jlassiter, thus increasing the chances for making this "transfer of ownership" a success.

Furthermore, I care not about your pms and whether or not you feel I've put up an intelligent argument. You Sir, should have more to contribute to this forum than pointing out a "bogus" rescue or arguing with me or Aaron. But, if you so desire then feel free to "Come at me Bro"
