Re: Names of your creatures
I have a wide variety of names for my pets- some of them are named after their colors. My carpets are High Voltage (bright neon yellow) and Electra (in keeping with the electricity theme), and Voodoo (his pattern makes him look like his mouth is stitched). My venomous are named after personality or species- Shelby the cobra (like the car), Gremlin (she's evil after dark), Green Goblin, and Miss Buzztail. The Wagler's are named after colors or local language - Bisa Ular (Poison snake in Malay) and Jade.
Others of my snakes just have funny names, like Trogdor the Burminator and Curious George.
My dog came with her name, Aurora, but I shortened it to Rory, because Aurora is too hard to pronounce quickly. My Bengals Trigger and Flower were named before I got them, and my kitten Bengal I named Raja because it sounded exotic. My Toyger is named Shere-Khan, because he's a mini tiger cat.

Re: Names of your creatures
Mose, I love your Amazons!!!
Starting with themed names. My leopard geckos are all named after actors and actresses. I have Antonio Baneras, Drew Barrymore, Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, Kate Winslet, Scarlet Johanson, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Cary Elwes, Kate Beckinsale, Reese Witherspoon, Helena Bonham Carter, Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Zooey Deschanel, Bill Murray, Anthony Hopkins, Lindsay Lohan, Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger, Liv Tyler, and Orlando Bloom, babies are still unnamed until we can determine sex.
Pictured is Zooey Deshanel.
My colored Amazon tree boas are all named after fruity drinks. There's Crush, Tropicana, Sprite, Daiquiri, Tang, Sunkist. My gardens have no theme. Sand Dollar was named by hubby. No idea why. Static is black and white, so that's how she got her name. And when we first got our little cream colored baby, he looked like a Noodle, so Noodles it was.
This is Crush.
Molly is my blue tongue skink. I named her, but I don't know why I chose that name. I just remember wanting to name her something feminine because she's pink.
On to monitors. My male blue tail shows some very dog like characteristics, like playing with squeaky toys, "guarding" his space, playing tug, and shaking what he has in his mouth. We thought of the most stereotypical male dog name we could, without being too cheesy. He became Max.
Dory came under the name Nemo. Dory is a female, so we changed her name to the female lead in Finding Nemo.
When we got Silvia, we had another green tree named Houdini. Houdini was constantly escaping, so his name was easy. Hubby wanted his female counterpart to have an old fashioned name. He started naming off names that I hated, then came to Silvia. When I was in Japan, I had a Nissan Silvia, so I allowed him to name her that.
Raven got his name for being black and looking like he has a beak.
We actually bought our black throat with the idea of using him in our reptile education shows. Since we knew he would get pretty large and intimidate people, we had to think of a super cute name to counter the phobia. He became Mr. Pickles. No idea why.
Here is Max.
My Argentine black and white tegu is named Iris because I have no idea. Haha. Maya is my Colombian. I don't know why, either. I've just always referred to her as such. Our new baby Colombian hubby named Zorro, because he has a "Z" on his back.
Here's Maya.
Our emerald tree boas are named after weather. It started out with Thunder and Lightning. I'm sure you can guess why (emeralds have what looks like lightning bolts down their back). Then we got Tempest.
This is Tempest.
Our boas are Rosy, Scarlett, Valentine, and Dennis. Dennis got his name because when we first got him, he escaped four times and wouldn't eat. We still to this day couldn't figure out how. We've moved him to a different enclosure. We got Valentine on Valentine's Day as a present to eachother. Rosy and Scarlett were named because our first boa was Crimson, so we decided to have a red theme. Crimson was named after an album by Alkaline Trio.
This one is is Scarlett:
Happy was named because she was a birthday present to hubby. Happy birthday.
Uhh... I think that's it for reptiles. My others don't have names unless I am completely blanking and fogetting someone.

Re: Names of your creatures
I found it really interesting to read about how you all named your pets. And I loved all the pictures!
My African Grey is Aryll, named after Link's little sister in the Wind Waker. I liked this name and I thought it was cute since she likes to play with birds.
My Hog Island Boa is named Hylia, also a Zelda reference. I really like the name, but since it's kind of awkward to actually say (at least for me) I used it on an animal that I won't really be calling or talking to as much.

Re: Names of your creatures
Other animals:
My two scorpions are Agony and Irony after the Alkaline Trio album (go figure). Irony is the tailless whip, because he looks like a spider (ironic?).
Irony:
My dogs are Gunny (ex named her), Cammie (she was almost Peanut, but my neighbors said that if you say it fast enough, that can sound like a male body part, especially if you're saying something like PEANUT'S toys, or PEANUT'S bone... so she became Cammie, because she's a spoiled girl), Winter (named after a line in an Alkaline Trio song "take a look and see I painted you a picture, it's black and white except the blood's a littler richer down in the corner where I gave it my signature, and then I titled it, 'This One's For The Winter'. Check it out and see it's just a big disaster". Winter is black and white and was a mental disaster when I got her.) Then there's Nero. I named him after another German shepherd named Nero who was a police dog. The dog I named him after, despite being shot, continued to apprehend the subect and saved his handler's life. Hubby named Luna after Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter.
Here's (from left to right) Luna, Cammie, and Nero:
Horses are Paradigm (one of my favorite words), Lyric (I've always wanted a horse named Lyric), Mistic II (she's very white, so son wanted to name her Mystic, but we in the past had a rat named Mystic so she became Mistic II in Mystic's memory), Encore (because she's Lyric's full sister and is the same very rare color), and Charlotte, Sassy, Spring, Rowdy, and Country Gold (they all came with their names).
This is Charlotte with Lyric in the background:
Cats- Sophie came with her name. I was only supposed to babysit her for a couple of weeks. This was almost four years ago. Dammit got his name because "Dammit, we got another animal". He fits his name, though, because "Dammit, he attacked me again!" "Dammit, he's covered in soot again!" "Dammit, he chased away the mailman again!" Then the barn cats: Thing One (we used to have a Thing Two but a neighbor fell in love with him and he lives in their house now), Bettie (friend named her), Dust Bunny (because she looks like she had been rolling in dust all day, but that's just her color), and Spooky (all black).
This is Dammit caught squeaking the dog toy:
Our goats are Cinderella (son named), Scooter (he's a fainting goat but sometimes he "faints" but doesn't tip over and he kind of scoots away because he can't move his legs), and Buck (came with his name).
Here's Buck (with Paradigm and Sassy in the background):
And my sugar gliders are Awww! (because that's what people say when they see her) and Gollum (hubby named him).
This is Awww!:

Re: Names of your creatures
The rest of my animals...
Tish- her name has no reason; it was random.
Vodka- because she's absolutely wild
Ecco- because he echoes everything we whistle.
Marshm ellow- because he's white and fluffy, and mellow
and last but certainly not least... my new baby, Miko! His name has no meaning or significance. I wanted a short name with the letter 'k' in it and easily pronounced in English and Spanish. He turned 1 month old this past Monday

Re: Names of your creatures
Penelope-The name just popped up in my head as soon as I held her. That's how I knew she has to come home with me.
Zeus-Had to stick to the greek theme, and what better name is there than Zeus?

Mac: due to his toffey colour
Eva was name by her previous owners.

Re: Names of your creatures
Toothless reminded my wife of Toothless in How To Train Your Dragon.
Dexter needs a new name. She was originaly thought to be a he by her previous owners. She dropped a bunch of infertile eggs a month after we got her. So she is in name limbo right now.
And Tang should be self explanitory.

I am honestly a huge fan of the books and not so much the movie, in the movie they changed to many of the characters around. In the book all Evra wanted to be was excepted for who he was and to be loved as more than a "that snake freak" in the movie he wanted to be a rockstar and didn't pay much attention to his snakes.
But yeah, not a bad movie at all just nothing like the book . (sorry about that, rant over)

Re: Names of your creatures
Ok this is going to take several posts so bear with me. First off is the first 2 Dums we got 2 tears ago, Plus the breeding trio we got shortly after that. In this order, we have Kermit and Miss Piggy the '09 Dums, then the trio of '02s including Popeye, Back Betty and Lulu (R.I.P). Popeye and Lulu were named after cartoon characters and Black Betty was named that because of how dark she is.
When we first got the '09 Dums they were still babies and the female ate agressively like a pig, thus her name. Of course that made the male Kermit since we got them as a pair.
