That's devestating.
Do you need to be talked off the ledge?
Maybe a hug from your mommy?
Get even; kick 'em out sooner.
Or poison their rats .......

Re: Someone made me sad today...

Wow, I can't believe they would make that kind of judgement towards you. They are probably just bitter about being kicked out, but still, that's no excuse. Some people are like that though, you find a fault with them and their pets (the smell) and they feel they need to justify themselves by pointing out all your faults (or in this case, just faults that they perceive because they don't know any better). I wouldn't give a second thought to it.

My snake has a decorative set up, it's more for me than him. He would be just as happy with home-made hides and such. And that does not only apply to snakes, but to "higher" animals as well. I have a small fortune of store-bought bird toys in this house and my African Grey still prefers paper plates to tear up and more simple toys that I make at home. If someone had the balls to tell me that I don't care about him because I make a lot of his toys, I would go nuts. It's like putting the blinders on towards all the care you provide just to nitpick on a little esthetic detail. Heck, even human kids prefer boxes and pots and pans to expensive toys a lot of the time. As long as the snakes are well cared for and have all that they need, who gives a hoot about how "pretty" the enclosure is. That person has to get their head out the sand.

I wouldn't let it get to you, it's not worth it. Sorry for the long post, but I just can't stand it when people judge based on things like that.

Hehe, don't think that the thought hasn't crossed my mind...I DID make them sign a waiver saying they wouldn't sue if one of my animals injured them. I wonder if it would apply to the rats too...lol

The funny thing is, all I was trying to do was help them out, their credit was so bad they couldn't find anywhere else to live. And now I'm getting repaid by having someone berate me every time the subject of snakes comes up. I can't wait to have my house back to normal.
it is awesome that your helping them out since they are in a bad spot.. that speaks HUGE to your charector. ...

however.. you are doing just fine with your snakes... like everyone said, as long as they have the miminum REQUIRMENTS, they are diong fine.. .heat, humidity, water, ect...

heck, look at me.. 12 of my snakes live in a 6qt tub, in a rack with aspen and water dish... (no hides since they are in rack) and they eat, poop, shed, and are healthy)

so just because you dont put al the decor in the cage does no way make you a bad owner!
