Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
Dumeri's can be cannibalistic. Also, they have a tendancy...even when not eating, to EAT their bedding! So weird. They don't require more humidity than other boas, unless shedding of course. I have had my boy, and girl (from two different breeders...btw 100 is a good price and 140 is great for two, though they will probably be siblings. That bothers some people, don't know if you mind though) Anyway, had them for six months now...the male has NEVER eaten. He's pooped once, and shed once, and now he just keeps mostly curled up under a coconut husk, only comes out for water and a quick jaunt around the tank. He hasn't really lost any weight. Both of them like their cool side. The female has shed once, and eaten quite a few times, and has grown....though right now she's on strike.
As far as i've read, and can tell...it's just the time of year. They are both still pretty small (though the female is as long as my shoulder to the tips of my fingers, where as the male is barely from my fingers to my elbow). They just want to chill on the cool side. They are always about 72-78 degrees. Only in the beginning did i see the female go onto the warm side.
They have a slow metabolism for a boa. (So do bolivian boas, which i also have.)
I've seen the female sit in her water dish for a day, before her shed. Now that i think about it, i think she's shed twice actually. (I keep meaning to start an excel document on my snakes but i never seem to lol)
They are both very calm, very nice snakes. I actually would have preferred they be a bit more active and more...i dunno...have a bit more personality.
They both burrow. The female loves to burrow and just have her nose sticking out. They are ambush predators.

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
You will enjoy him a lot. I prefer Dums over the South American Boas any day.
As far as cages go, you will just need to go with what you prefer. The snake doesnt care if his background is green, brown or purple, full of plants or on newspaper. All of that is YOUR preference.
When you get him post pics. I'd love to see what he looks like.

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
Yeah we use 2 racks... 1 that holds 4 15qt tubs and 4 6qt tubs on 6 shelves and another that holds 4 more 37qt tubs plus a 6' Neodesha enclosure for Black Betty. I think vivs look awesome but that would cost too much money for me to have for 16 snakes so I use racks instead. Like I said in the previous reply, you gotta go with what suits YOU and what YOU prefer.

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
Actually, I enjoy all 16 of them and I pull each one of them out and handle them like the pets that they are.

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
I think thats awesome that you spend time with them. As far as your coral is concerned, I understand. We cant legally keep hots here and I dont want any even if we could.

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
IN AZ the only law is we cant buy or keep any native species so I'm breaking the law by having my Arizona mountain king snake but to there's like 5 different mountain king snake's and unless your very good you can't tell the difference

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
Shhhh... Stay under that radar. We cant keep native species here either, not that I plan on getting any. I think we're maxed to our capacity right now, hence the need for a third rack.

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
Yeah one thing I don't get here. You can kill garters in the wild here but you cant keep them. That just doesn't make sense to me.
As far as your upcoming Dum is concerned, he will make a nice addition to your collection and you will enjoy him a lot.
