yes, arboreal will be about this time next year, SD hopefully February/March.

Absolutely gorgeous boa! The colour change is AMAZING! Comparing her to an RTB, (only speaking in terms of the comparison that pops into MY mind, not that it's a particularly close one

) it makes me think of her changing from Hog Island boa to an Azabache! Huge colour change! Congrats on owning such an incredible boid

To everyone that wants one of these, I wish them the best of luck tracking one down. If you *do* ever find one, jump on it because you'll probably never see another one. There are so few in captivity. It seems they were only exported the one time a few years ago and there won't be any more coming.

If you happen to find one and it's a baby (which are much smaller than your average hatchling Corn Snake), be warned that you're likely to need a colony of House Geckos to get it going. If you can't find House Geckos, they have been known to accept other small Gecko tails as food, but it's a long road to get them onto mice, and even as an adult the largest thing it can take as food are mice, so these are things to consider before you make the grab

On a side note, Gracie is a very large female and males will be considerably smaller than she is. She's also a very mature snake, shedding only once every 9-10 months, so it'd be many years before a young one got to her size.

These are also not an easy thing to get to breed, requiring multiple males to trigger the breeding instinct. Breeding in this species only occurs every 2-3 years and they're notorious for high failure rates in captive breeding; they're very fussy and it's quite difficult to reproduce the conditions required for the female to bear live young. Females very often hold the young past term and and pump out still-borns because the conditions they want weren't met. As great a snake as they are, they're a tricky customer to reproduce for the masses.

Here's a fresh paint job on Gracie. She'd just finished shedding, so she's just sitting in a containment tank and resting while I cleaned her ExoTerra.

Gotta love when she's wearing her black leisure suit - her iridescence shows-up so nicely in that colour phase and she looks so shiny. When she's in a light colour mode the iridescence looks much more like a satin finish than it does in this mode

wow, and here I thought I'd seen about all the snakes in the world by now. At least the ones kept as pets. She's very pretty and extremely interesting, thanks for sharing.

Lots of snakes can change colour. The entire Candoia family are capable of radical changes in colour, as are most Boa Constrictors. Reticulated Pythons also have the ability to radically change at times. Some have a limited ability, where only their heads change colour such as in Blood Pythons, but there are many that can change their entire appearance like Gracie can

Blood, I just stumbled across the candoia tasmai tasmai today myself. Really bummed to hear they are tough to cross over to rodents and to breed.
