Been playing guitar for about 24 years.Have Tacoma c2c acustic ,a Fender custom shop Strat and just a plain old tobacco sunburst Strat.Yahmaha pro series keyboard 530 I think and a 8 track digital home studio.I do not have an amp just head phones I seem to be the only one who likes what I play, a lot of my own stuff ( have thousands of riffs to share)and I do prefer to play rythm so the rock star type's (like Shane lol) can have something to wail over .I know all the modes scales circle of fiths ect, ect. it just says more to me when I hear a great rythm player

The greatest rythm players are by far some of the best song writers. Steve Stevens(billy idol) Izzy Stradlin (guns n roses) Don Dokken (Dokken) Kurt Vanderhouf (Metal Church) Eddie is in a world of his own when it comes to rythm!!!!!

E flat B flat F A E flat F D grove on that for a bit will open your eyes to the world of rythm and groove.

Peace

Any educated player is a friend of mine! It makes a big difference to be able to communicate with musicians in musical terms. The circle of fifths idea is so fundamental, but 90% of players haven't even heard of it Same goes with the order of sharps and flats and even playing more than one variation of each chord!

Keep on rockin'!

im just recently learning theory. I've only been playing guitar for 3 year, less actually. i have fun. thats my main focus now.you are right whoever said most wouldn't know circle of fifths as i don't. i do know the modes mixolydian, lydian etc . I am a hardcore kid. plenty of power chords, bar chords and suspnded chords for me . I'm not all abot the drop tunings. sometimes they create a god sound but its not me. maybe i can score some Canadian points right now and say how i love Rush.

Well, I just made a point of learning that junk. It takes while but once you understand the basics, the rest is easier. If you ever have any questions, let me know!

Here is the best adivice I can ever give any one learnig music any kind of music.(I studied music theory and composition in school Iwish I had of taken spelling and grammer lol) are you ready for it ?

LEARN ALL THAT YOU CAN AND ONCE YOU HAVE LEARNED ALL THAT YOU CAN FORGET EVERTHING THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED!!!!

Only this way will you find yourself, your music will sound like you and will lead you to a true freedom of expression.Because in the end we are all what we create and we all create what we will become.

F D E C B G D B work that one on a 5/4 feel and smash the G real hard and shake it a bit just for some flavour!!!!!!!!

Peace

Hip

ps try not to use any "power chords" the real power is in the full chord !!!!

No man! supplying groves from my vault of power for the lead players to play over to expand thier horisons on the fretboard. I should have told them (but I forgot) was to not work it out but just play over it! Close the eyes and let your spirit soar on the neck. Some times you just got to stop and smell the roses forget the right mode! and just feel it in your heart play what you feel play what you see play what you are.In the end we all create what we are and from that we can not hide. IT IS ALL ABOUT FEEL ANYTHING LESS IS PHONEY!!!!!!!

Peace

Power chords do have a place for flavour in a compisition of chords or a musical cresendo and for the bulding of a theme. They are just too easy and used to often and become a crutch to the young and the lazy.Use all the fingerings you can full, power suspended , and even broken chords have a place.A well composed peice of music relies on many forms of cords to accent a melody,a melody is more than root ,fith and root but in the same token root, fifth and root can give the beauty of power were none would be in a full chord. I could write 100,000 words on chords and theory of music but i won't lol. Feel what you play and play what you feel you will be forever set free.

Peace

reading what you write hip is like watching an amazing motivational speaker. your right, power chords do become a crutch for the newer musicians such as myself. i admitted this a while ago and have since been learning new things. but i also believe that complicity ( word?) does not necessarily make a song great. some things that are even so simple, not just in music but anything, can be just as beautiful and amazing as something complicated. But i do aspire to be at the musical god level of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and Alex Lifeson and this swedish guy whose name i forget but plays in Children of Bodom.
