My Boa is the same way. Seems to genuinely like to be handled. He hissed at me one time when he was blue. Lesson learned on my part, don't bug him when he is blue. You guys are making me want a super dwarf now, but dang I got so many on my wish list all ready!

Re: Just bought a retic!!!!

Congratulations, Rob!! SD retics are awesome. My girl is incredibly friendly too, but watch the feeding response. Retics of all sizes are known for a ravenous, fast feeding response. For example, my girl Baby can be handled and trusted with just about anybody once she is out of the cage, but if there is food around forget it. Sunday I fed them and I had Baby's large rat dangling on the tongs right in front of her cage when I opened the door, but she flew out right past it and bit the floor. It took 10 minutes to get her face out of the carpet, as she was actually trying to wrap the floor!!! Another time she latched onto the radiator. lol. If there is no food in the room though, she is a total puppy dog.
Best of luck with the new fellow, I'm sure you'll be looking for another one in no time. Retics are special.

Re: Just bought a retic!!!!

After some issues with our viv being built due to staff and mechanical problems we have finally got our SD home today!! He is such a sweetie, no fuss getting him out of his travel 'bag' and he didnt want to go into the viv, just wanted to hang out on my arm!! Once he has fed for us i will get some nice pics up.

Can i just check those of you that have SD - temp 92f hotspot? Humidity 60-70%?

Cheers

Rob

Re: Just bought a retic!!!!

my DR is kept at around 85 hot spot, its as hot as i can get the cord to heat the tank and shes doing fine or i would get a higher watt cord. i can always do that if people think i should? humidity is 60-70% i mist the cage daily. Grats btw i cant wait to see more pics, retics are amazing snakes, i just love mine to peices.

Re: Just bought a retic!!!!

Looking online at care sheets it seems 88-94f is best for the hot point. Thanks for your answers guys.

Re: Just bought a retic!!!!

just put my digital meter in and my cage was 88.7d hotspot. my ferret ripped off all the under heat cord a little while ago so i retaped it on, looks like i condenced the space between rows and its hotter on the hotspot than it was now i would buy higher watt cord and bring it to 94d but i find she spends very little time in that location, she spends most of her time in the cold side. i got a 2'x2' spot as my hot spot 2'x4' 84d and a 2'x2' spot with no undertank heat tape under the water tub and she moves the water tub and chill their most of the time. that spot stay 80d
